Hornady Superformance for .338 Winchester
I'm thinking about trying some of these out this season (whitetail deer) with the 185 grain GMX bullet. I've been using Winchester Super X with the 200 grain Power Point for a long time and they have done very well, but I'm looking for something with a touch flatter trajectory.
Has anyone used this ammo or these bullets? Is there a big difference in my current ammunition and the Hornady stuff, or should I leave well enough alone?

It might add 20 to 25 yards to your dead on hold distance. Are you going to be shooting over 300 yards so that it would matter? Both loads are overkill for deer, but my best friend uses his 338 for deer. I use my 338 for moose. I doubt you would gain much by changing. Most 338 bullets are a bit stout for deer, but seem to get the job done.

Not the 338, but I tried some of the Superfomance in 30-06 and 308. Tried 150's and 165's in each. All 4 loads were 100fps+ slower than advertised. My 30-06 handloads matched or bettered their speed and are MUCH more accurate.
The Superformance 308 was better. While slower than advertised, they are still faster than any handloads I've come up with by around 50 fps, and the accuracy was not bad at all. My handloads are a bit more accurate, but I'd hunt with the 308 Superformance loads I tried. The 30-06 loads I would not. |

I'm going to be using the same bullet in 338 rcm factory loads this season. I haven't got around to load development yet, so I'm trying these.
I may go to the lease and try to blast a hog this weekend if I get a chance. They've taken over out there and I'd like to get this rifle bloody. If I have any luck, I'll post the results. |
