Use of a drop tube
What do I lose if I don't use one?
Remember; .45 Long Colt. Black powder.

not a thing. Now, iffn you was shootin a 45-70 or such at long ranges, it would come in handy.

Using a drop tube I can get pathetic 3 grains more in a big 45-70 case, shaking it gives me room for another 10 grains.

I use an old golf shaft 30 inches long with powder funnel attached to the top , I have the Lyman 55 BP powder measure, my golf shaft does a much better job then the tubes that came with it.
I only use it for 45-70 though.
