So I shot my friend's Remington R1 today...
I was amazed at how good it felt to shoot! I was kind of meh on how it felt to hold when he bought it, but shooting it put that to rest.
I only got to shoot a single magazine as we couldn't find more than a single expensive box of ammo, but it was worth it. I was extremely surprised that the recoil was so minimal on a .45, since the only .45 I've shot before was the M&P .45. It basically felt identical to my 92fs's 9mm recoil which was very nice. Just wanted to share a mini-review!

It might be down the road, 3 guns in the past year equals time for me to slow down. I still want a .357 pretty badly too, so we will see. Great gun though!

1911s handle recoil much better than other 45s.

I don't agree; although it does better than smaller sized pistols in the same round. My Sig P220's and my full size Sig P250 handle it just as well if not better in my personal opinion. Although, I do not find the .45 ACP to be so bad with recoil in full size pistols.
I find low pressure rounds like the .45 ACP and bird shot in a 12 gauge to be a push as opposed to felt recoil if you have a good grip of a firm stock to the shoulder. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy my 1911's. Mercy, I fully understand. I would recommend a nice S&W 586 or 686 in .357 Magnum. Attached is a picture of my 686: Last edited by lamarw; March 18, 2013 at 01:49 PM. |

The 686 was actually the first gun I wanted, unfortunately the price point was too high at the time so I got a Model 10 instead. I want a 586 or 686 or even GP100 one day.

R1's are very nice. Great value for the price. I have around 1200 rounds out of mine and the only problem I had was a loose ejector , which I re-pinned and fixed myself. Very solid 1911.

IMO the all steel 1911s as well as the Cz97 are more comfortable to shoot then many .40 s&w handguns of the same weight. Its recoil imo is pleasure inducing!
