If you are willing to buy in bulk quantities (and get free shipping) two other sources are:

Wideners

Montana Gold

Bullet information

Aside from this forum, your best source of bullet information comes from bullet manufacturers. Many, such as Sierra, provide specification and application for each bullet they manufacture and sell.

As for a .223 plinking bullet you can do quite well with Sierra's or other bullet maker's .224" 55gr FMJBT. I use this bullet in my Mini-14 for plinking and 10" steel plate shooting at 100 yds. Lot of fun.

You will have to try a few to find out which ones works best for your rifle.

My 1-12 twist Rem 700 likes Hornady 55 gr V-max.
