Black Talon

I hope this is the right place to ask.

Does Winchester currently produce a 250 gr. .44 Magnum comparable to their defunct Black Talon?

Look for Winchester Ranger T ammo. It's expensive, not really worth it if you ask me, but it's the same thing as the tallons.

Ranger SXT = Same eXact Thing (or at least 95%) as the back talon, just doesn't haven that black lubolox coating on it.

Is the Ranger SXT for law enforcement only?

If it is, (which I am not LE), does Winchester make a civilian version of 250 gr. .44 Mag similar to SXT?

Winchester does not sell to civilians, but places no restrictions on who sellers can sell to

Ranger T and Ranger SXT are NOT the same. Bullet construction is different. The T is better, IMO. (Edit: based on the lower prices one usually finds on SXT, I think others may share my opinion.)

Mleake nailed it. The SXT basically IS the Talon, and the T is an improved version (I think it stands for Winchester Ranger Talon).

try out sgammo.com for 50-round LE-marked boxes, they're a better deal. If they're not stocked up try ammotogo.com

While my preference is ATK ammo (Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot) the Winchester Ranger-T is a highly proven round and you'll be well-served with it.

These links may or may not be helpful. To my surprise they were the only ones I could find at SG and Ammotogo, and they are usually my go-to.

Winchester does not make the Ranger Line in revolver calibers larger than .38 Special. The Platinum Tip that Locked Breech referenced, however, is based upon the old Black Talon design and is about as close as you're going to get to a modern-day BT in .44 Magnum.

On a side note, IIRC one of the designers of the Black Talon later went to work for Remington and helped to develop the Golden Saber. Which is another good cartridge. Moreover, a lot of the hype for the Black Talon was created by the media. It was a good design but IMHO there are better things available now even to the general public.

Which current Winchester 44 Magnum round most closely compares to the discontinued 250 Gr Partition Gold round?

The legend of Black Talon is due solely to media hype. According them it would shoot through 12 cops, two Abrams tanks and an APC and kill a cute puppy two counties over...

In the real world it was a good bullet design but there are ones just as good and even better today, so I would not limit myself to a bullet simply because of it's Black Talon heritage.
