Pawn shop finds

Found 2 Investarms rifles today. $650.00 dollars later I brought home a 50 cal and a 58 cal. The 50 had been used. With it came a tackle box with 1/2 pd of powder, 50 rounds of ball, patches, tools, capper, ect, ect ect.The 58 appears to never been fired. Both are the Hawken style. Need to get to the range to practice and find out how these rifles perform before going out to hunt down some bacon.

$650 for two arms and a bunch of stuff is good. I wonder if the .58 will shoot a minie ball?

Well it appears your set for whatever comes your way. 50 & a 58. Now is a good time to consider your first bear hunt later this Fall. That 58 will no doubt ruin a bears day. If one wants to make an addition to their gun closet. Two at a time is the way to do it._

I have one of the Investarms 58 hawkens. The bore diameter is a little large for the standard 575213 lyman minie. You will need to get theoversize one that are closer to .580 dia. Both my 575213-"old Style" and my 577611 minies will slide right out the barrel if tipped down. It likely will shoot a patch ball (.570"dia) quite well. I have not worked up a hunting load for mine yet but it did shoot the 577611 pretty well with 90grs FFg Goex. I just don't like the idea of having to keep the barrel level or up when hunting. For hunting you will want a thick skirted minie for heavy loads. You will want to break bones.

Thanks Hellgate. Ive gotten advice from people on 50 and 54 when I started to search for A rifle. This deal was to good to pass up. Finding 58 cal bullets seems to be slightly more difficult. I can only find it on line right now, nothing local. Hopefully by next season Ill know what works best for me with this rifle. 45 and 50 seem to be the most popular around here so it might be fun being out with other BP hunters with this caliber.

Congrats on the find.

I bought 2 investarms .50 calibers from a guy on Facebook,
One is a 32 inch barrel, the other is shorter, other than that they are identical.

Since we just were granted custody of my 14 year old nephew, we now have matching rifles.

I have shot the short one, and at 50 yards, it shoots great, with patch round ball and 50grains of FF.

I love it.
That one is for my nephew.

I have yet to shoot the long barreled one. But I expect it to be as good as its twin.
You will enjoy them immensely I am sure.

Here is a photo of the twins.

Show us your pawnshop siblings.

A thin skirted .58 minie with 65-70 grains of powder will destroy bones.
