Large Primer 9mm

Has anyone ever seen one? I've handloaded hundreds of 9mm and they have always had small primers.

Where did you find this one?

I know they did .45 ACP in small primers (Something about green components), but like you, have never heard of the large primer 9mm.

After looking at the picture, are you sure that isn't an 8mm Luger?
Looks fishy either way.

I know the one on the left looks like an 8, but it's not. It's a 9. In fact I just came across another one. This is range brass. Remington/Peters btw.

These pics are a bit clearer.

The case on the left in the first picture even looks smaller in diameter.

Those pictures are LESS clear, if anything. I can't read those head stamps at all. The first one certainly looks like an 8. If its a 9, it has a very long, very curved leg.

Never heard of an 8mm Luger.

Blank, SIMS, ?

I sure can't see a reason to make large primer 9mm ball when the trend is to small primer .45.

Is there just the one central flash hole, or are there two more on either side? maybe someone drilled out a beridian primed case for LP primer... I can't imagine why someone would go to the trouble though for 9mm.... my best guess is maybe it was just a mistake at the brass factory......

Just one central flash hole, not a berden.

The only 8mm luger I cam across on the web was a French pistol made in 1892.

I would say that during the primer shortage someone reamed their brass to use the larger primer because that is all they could find in the store.
