Eotech 553

Just curious if anyone has an Eotech 553 on an AR15 and how do you like it?

Thinking of picking one up for shooting to about 100m. I'm not into dead on precision, just Minute of Man accuracy and I like the wide viewing window of Eotechs compared to Aimpoints.

Thanks

I have a 552 on my M4. It works awesome. You should have no problem getting sub 4MOA with it. (65.1 ring/dot model)

similarly, I prefer the wide field of view and find the ring/dot reticle to be far faster to acquire than with an Aimpoint.

I have a 552 and if I had to do it over again I'd probably go with a 553. That would bring me down to one battery size to carry. The reticle is pretty cool, the 1 MOA dot gives you precision while the 65 MOA circle puts you on up close targets fast.

Since you guys have the 552, what's the difference between that and the 553?

552 runs on two AA batteries, 553 runs on two CR123's.
There's a number of reticles available for both, the A651 model with the 65 moa ring and 1 moa dot being a very popular one.

I debated hard. I ended up with the 552 because the AA battery is far cheaper and more readily available for purchase than the 123. What I traded was that the sight takes up more realestate on my rifle. I'd say there's a good 3/4" foot-print difference between the two.

Does one have a better battery life than the other or is it just the size of batteries?

I never did a comparison test. I never found anything comparing the two quantitatively actually. Like I said, this sight is on my SHTF rifle, so I was going for ease of resupply. I CAN tell you though that the battery life with AA's is incredible, and both models have an 8 hour auto off feature to conserve battery life.
