U.S. Springfield 1864
Hello all,
I was given a caplock style firearm. On the right side of hammer is a "U.S. Eagle" and the words U.S. Springfield. On the left of the hammer are the numbers / year "1864". Could anyone tell me more about this? It's in bad shape and I'm not looking to sell it just want to know more. Thanks in advance. |

Pictures would help in a good ID, but with the information you have supplied it is probably a union issued rifle from the civil war.

Sounds like a Springfield Rifle Musket, Model of 1963, Type II, Flayderman 9A-341; as made in 1864. About a half a million of these were made, 1863-1865, to arm Union forces in the Civil War.
