I sent in my FFL renewal in April
and BATF hasn't cashed the check yet. My current license doesn't expire until the first of July, but that's just a few weeks away. Is it time to call them and see if there's a problem?

I think so.
ATF has always cashed my checks within days of receiving it.

I called them; they've received it but it's still pending a background check. They said if I don't get it by July 1 to call back and they'll send me an extension letter.

It takes longer to get a renewal than a new license?
Mine only took 5 weeks last year... I had no idea they would need to run a new background check for a renewal; I would have thought that their database would be automatically updated if there were an "event", like a felony conviction. If that doesn't happen, an FFL holder (of any type) could be convicted of a serious felony, and still retain their license until renewal? Doesn't sound right... |

I called them again Tuesday to get an "extension letter" and the girl (never called me "Sir" this time but sounded like a real person instead of a droid like the last guy) said they sent on Sunday. I asked about the check never clearing and she told me the correct check number and said to check again on 4/27, that they might have run it as an electronic transfer instead of a check. Sho' nuff.
The FFL came in the mail today. And it has a little card in the corner that you can cut off and carry in you wallet (not sure what that's good for)

Does it have all the license information on it, and a place for you to sign it. Don't remember one on my last renewal. I wonder if distributors will accept it for out of state C&R sales? Could be handy at Knob Creek instead of carrying a handful of copies.
