Springfield 1911 Mil Spec good?

My LGS has a Springfield 1911 SS for $750 and they have on back order an Springfield 1911 Mil Spec for around $680

I really like the park version, is the Springfield 1911 a good buy for around $700? I like the basic low profile, no thrills on a 1911. Like original WWI WWII styles.

The SS model looks ugly and can be scratched and seen easy. IMO.

you should be able to get them to come down a bit. I'd say $600 out the door for the mil spec would be fair. Not a killer deal, but not over priced. $680 plus tax???? I wouldn't

Even considering the changes I make to them- I would personally go that much for a Mil-Spec. I forget what I paid for mine, but it was barely used much at all with no bubba-ing or shadetree parts swapping. Yup, I coul've left well enough alone, but that lock in the mainspring housing ****** me off. So with that- I added a wide spur hammer, arched MSH w/lanyard loop, and a longer trigger. I also, polished up the sear, put a bit more of a pronounced secondary angle on the sear, and stoned the hammer hooks to .20". Even if I was not to have done all that except replace the MSH- I would still go that much for one. They are darn good and reliable firearms with stellar customer service.

Theres a lock in the mainspring house? I don't want crap to muck up my firearm to render it useless.

You can find them around 550$. 600$ Seems to be standard. I wouldn't pay 680 for it. Hell it's going to be 640$ with tax even more so if base price is 680$. As of right now I think i want to build off one. They have some great reviews for a low price 1911. I personally would get one, replace the MSH with brown checkered MSH, and all the MIM parts with brown parts, buff the roll mark out leave the insignia, and let a smith overhaul it with the parts. Also add a magwell and front strap checkering. I really love the professional but it's 2000+ price tag is too much for me at the moment. I would love to overhaul a mil-spec for around 1200-1300 and have a quality weapon with the aesthetics of the professional.

Other than the arched MSH and the ugly grips in this picture it looks great with a Black-t Finish.

Different parts of the country have different prices I guess. But I got a Springfield Stainless Loaded for 800, which has several features that the gi and milspec dont. A quick check to buds guns list milspec at 519 and 580 for the stainless. I do realize that ordering on line isnt for everyone. good luck
