+1 for the PLY22. This gun has a great ergo feel to it and is very reliable with CCI HP Mini-Mags. I have much larger guns that dont fit my hand as well as my PLY22. I have no problem with the double action trigger pull of this gun. The only down side to this gun is you cant shoot the really cheap stuff in it because if you get one you will be shooting alot of rounds through it. I have had 2 Beretta model 21's in 22LR and never was happy with either. The Beretta's were only good for about 35 to 40 rounds and then needed cleaned to become reliable. I have fired 200 Mini-Mags through my PLY before having cycling problems and then switched over to Agulia 60gr SSS's with thier short case and ran another 65 rounds. Mine is a plinker and has helped my double action shooting greatly.

This thread makes me wanna get a PT22. I do have a 21A and there's nothing I can do to make it reliable, but I can get through a few mags with stingers ok.
If my 21A were reliable it would be the perfect gun. It fits my hand awesome and I love the controls and trigger.

Went to the range today, this guy had a 25cal. Raven, it was a saturday night special. Now that was the worst firearm I had ever seen. It shot all flyers. Plus a bunch of failure to feed. Now that is the gun for you if you really want a piece of c...

Before you buy a PT-22,,,
Before you buy a Taurus PT-22,,,
Check out a Taurus 22-PLY. The weight is only a bit more than one ounce less,,, But the ergonomics of the gun are much better. I have K-frame hands,,, This little gun fits me perfectly. ![]() I'm not saying the polymer pistol is a better gun,,, I'm saying it has a radically different feel than the steel frame version. I've shot a lot of rounds through both models,,, In my not-so humble opinion,,, The 22-PLY feels nicer. Aarond .

Well, I had hoped to do a review of my new cheap, POS, crappy handgun, but in true Bass Pro Shops tradition they are out of stock! So were the Rough Riders in the same add, but that wasn't my list anyway. I did get a rain check for the $199 price so I'll just put my gift cards, and spare change away for when they get more in stock. The nice person at the gun counter that was probably selling fishing rods last week, and hiking boots the week before had no idea when that would be.

Just got a call from BPS. they got the PT22's in for the rainchecks. they will hold it for 48 hours, so I'm on my way up to get it tonight. Great to be in a free state where there isn't any waiting periods, purchase permits, or other commy obstructions to buying a new gun!!!
![]() I'll get it to the range ASAP for a full review of my opinions on this little Bull gun. Might have to go to an indoor range though. 100+ temps predicted for the next 5 days at least. I hate to shoot while I'm sweating so much I can't see!!!

No range session yet, but some first impressions.
The PT22 Poly feels very light. I think becaause of it's small caliber, combined with the minimal size of the slide due to the pop up barrel design, it feels lighter than it's 11 1/4 oz weight. Particularly it doesn't have the top heavy feel that my other poly framed pistols have. The DAO trigger pull is firm, with predictable stacking. The natural pointability is excellent, and it feels like an extension of your hand ,much like just pointing your finger. This should lend it to excellent practice for CCW without the expense of 380, 9mm, or 40 S&W ammo for my EDC weapons. I'll still give them a run through at every range session, but not as much as I used to now that I can shoot 22 rimfire ammo for a lot more point and shoot instinct shooting practice. The grips are a lot more hand filling however than my Elsie, or KAHR CM9. Their bulk feel more like my Springer XD40 Sub. The sights are more prominant than those on Elsie, but have no colored dots, or lines. Again, not needed for point, and shoot instinct shooting practice. I found some myths that I read on other forums about things stated in the owners manual to be just that, myths. 1. Only standard velocity ammunition is recomended. False. The owners manual only mentions the importance of clean ammunition in good condition should be used. Then there is the common, and almost obligatoru warning about +P being used only in guns rated +p, and advise against the over powered +P+ ammo that some companies make. 2. It will damage the gun to load the chamber by racking the slide, and the owners manual states that it should only be loaded via the pop up barrel. False again! The very first sentence of the paragraph on loading the chamber says to rack the slide with a loaded magazine in the gun. Then it says "or press the lever to tip up the barrel for loading". Fit, and finish are, well, Taurus. Not Baretta, or Smith & Wesson. But at under two hundred bucks I didn't pay a Beretta, or S&W price either! The trigger, and slide action feel a bit scratchy, and tight, but I've noticed that with many new guns including my latest pryor to the PT22, a KAHR CM9. With a good cleaning, lubricating, and a break in session I'm sure that will improve. Bottom line, so far, so good. I'm very happy with the little Bull gun. Just got to figure a little range time in my busy schedule of the next few weeks to give it a good run through.

So now that you have one of the polymer pistols,,,
So now that you have one of the polymer pistols,,,
You should call it by it's proper nomenclature. It may have the PT-22 workings,,, And it may come with a PT-22 owners manual,,, But in reality it's true nomenclature is the 22PLY Who cares, right? ![]() But hey,,, Congratulations,,, That is one fun little gun. ![]() Aarond .

But as you noted, the instruction manual is labeled PT-22. Then a quick look through all the listings for semi-auto taurus guns show no PT prefix on any of them. Possibly simply a deletion of the PT (I'm thinking for Pistol, Taurus) from all the model numbers in the on-line catalog.

Hey Cheepshooter,,,

And since the only apparent difference between the two is the polymer frame,,, They probably said "what the heck, who's gonna notice?" The two little guns even use the same magazine. I just thought that with your keen mind for detail,,, And your desire to sport the most modern in Brazilian Tupperware,,, You would want to differentiate your fine new weapon from the older inferior model. ![]() James Bond would be proud of us! ![]() Aarond P.S. You really are going to have fun with this little gun,,, As you stated, it is a true natural pointer,,, You'll be popping tin cans @ 25 yds. .

kind of looks like a Beretta Jetfire type clone (or close to it)
anyone familiar with that design that can say if it's pretty much the same thing or close to it?

I don't buy crappy handguns anymore. What's the point? I have my eye out for a Diamondback DB9 - they cost about $300-350. It's a very well made pocket 9mm. I've examined one disassembled and I was surprised at some of the "goodies" I found. Why would I want two cheaply made pocket .22's instead of the DB9?

Update
Well, I finally got to do a limited amount of shooting with my new PT22. It was just at an informal old dump in the woods, with no bench, or target stands. Just enough to run a few rounds through it for some first impressions. I fired several magazines of CCI MiniMags without a problem. One complaint I have after the first mag. the slide doesn't stay open after the last round allowing for some inadvertent "dry firing" which is not a good thing for a rimfire!
Accuracy was good as far as I could tell. Pop cans dancing all around at 10 or so yards. Next time I'll have it at my range with a good rest, and measured target stands. I tried a couple other brands of ammo. RGB's functioned OK, but a couple misfires showed dented rims so I am assuming it was the Remington bulk ammo. federal Champions were totally incompatible with the little Taurus. Failures to fire, failures to eject spent rounds, failures to feed. You name it, and it failed! Just to make sure that something hadn't happened to the gun I shot several more mags of MiniMag through it without trouble. So far I'm happy with the Mini-Bull, and anxious to give it a really good test session.

Cheap, I like your thinking. But, (there's always one of those, eh?) I've found that locally, if you have a job and a little cash, there are always some good deals in the pipeline. I have recently found myself turning down deals just because it's something I don't want or need. Keeping in mind that I almost always look at at gun purchases as investments wether short or long term.

Just a different philosophy Boatme. As my sig line indicates I don't look to sell or trade any of them down the road at any time. Things just pop up that appeal to me. Sometimes very reasonably priced C&R guns, sometimes a "steal" from a LGS like my T/C G2 Contender with two barrels, and a Burris scope for $250, sometimes a sale at BPS or Cabella's when I have a bunch of points and gift cards, and sometimes I just can't help myself when I see something I want. All I know is I'm paying the bills, the safes are getting full, and I'm having lots of fun!!!

Yep, it's always fun. My safe is about at capacity and it looks like I'm moving soon. Not sure what to do. I may have to leave the safe in the house and buy another one when I move.
