Thinking about getting one
Not sure whether this belongs on the shotgun or rifle forum.
As of now, I only own handguns, I have three 9mm semi's, one 45acp and a .357 revolver. I thinking about getting either a rifle or a shotgun. I am leaning toward the shotgun as I think it would provide a little more variety. A rifle would probably be just another gun to take to the range and would take away from the time I have to spend shooting my handguns (there are only som many hours in a day). I wouldn't be using it for hunting and probably not self defense either (I have enough fire power for that with a .45 and a .357) Any thoughts?

Have you shot either much before? If so, which did you enjoy more?
If not, maybe go with a friend or acquaintance who has both... try them out.

Before you make any decisions, give shotgunning a try (with a rented or borrowed gun) at your local T&S club. |

Yes, we are going to shoot clay targets, this weekend, first time.

Then try as many types of shotguns - semis, O/U, etc., as you can - either borrowed, rented or whatever to see what types you like. Clay target shooting, whether trap, skeet, 5-stand or sporting clays all have their challenges and fans, and one gun that works for one may not always be the best choice for one of the other games

Shotgun fan here, If you've never shot a shotgun at a 4x4 sheet of plywood you are missing out!

I shoot rifles, pistols and shot guns. Every Thursday I hit the Sporting Clays trail with a few friends and that's the best day of the week. One week I did the course by myself. It was OK but sort of like drinking alone. It's much more fun with friends making "constructive comments" on each shot.
