making a rifle into a pistol(Legally)
Rossi has the new wizard switch barrel system out, but no pistol frames.
Is there any way to legally change a rifle to a pistol? Cutting the stock to a pistol grip is easy enough, but what hoops would have to be jumped through from the legal end? It seems at the worst I could file the papers to "build" a handgun and then re-serial the item or something.

You can't make a rifle into a pistol. The best thing to do is wait for this:
http://www.rossiusa.com/2011newcatalog/?catalog_page=12 With a rifle, the only thing you can do is make an SBR or build something resembling a pistol with a long barrel. There's nothing you can do through paperwork or reserialing. If stripped receivers were available from the factory, it would be easy. But they aren't. |

I called Rossi a while back and they aren't so sure they will be following through with the pistol version.
I don't see how converting this could ruin it.

i always wondered the same thing?
i saw a picture that someone took of a mosin rifle and turned it into a pistol about the size of a ruger charger. -i would guess that most rifles, turned into pistols would be worthless but could be fun to try? -so you guy's say no way

well, yes the evidence locker aside.
I am calling the local ATFE office. Columbus office pushed me to Cincinnatti and they just take VMs. Have to wait. The picture of the Mosin pistol conversion I have seen is supposed to be a WWII resistance conversion. Braztech also, maybe I can get them to send me one without a stock registered pistol. Never know.

Talked to an unimaginative person at Braztech. Will call back another day.

File the paperwork and pay the tax for a short barreled rifle.

Can't use a rifle for deer in Ohio, NFA is alot of paperwork to cross state lines. NFA SBR does me no good.
Better to stick w/ the encore.
