Combat Focus Instructor Development, Orlando, Feb 2007
While teaching at SWAT Round Up in Orlando earlier this month, arrangements were made to return to Orlando in February for the first opportunity to get certified as a Combat Focus Shooting Instructor on the East Coast.
The course will be hosted by RPG and conducted at the new scenario training facility built by Cubic in Orlando. The course will be Feb 18-20, and I will spend the morning of the 21st with any interested students conducting a seminar on how to get the most out of a scenario training facility like the one designed at that site. Email, PM or visit the Valhalla site for more details. This course is sandwiched between a 3 day course being hosted by FIREARMZ in Temple, GA, Feb 15-17 (Combat Focus Shooting & Adv. Pistol Handling) and my presentation at the Rangemaster Tactical Conference in Memphis,TN on the 23rd of Feb. Details for all VTC and offsite courses can be found at the Valhalla Website Training Calendar. |

US Shooting Academy, Tulsa Ok
Here's a link to the USSA schedule for this year.
They have classes for LE/Military, civilian, self defense classes, competition shooting classes (taught by Phil Strader), 3 gun, rifle, shotgun, Force on Force. Pretty much the whole gambit, and a fantastic facility. And their prices are very good The Head instructor is Mike Seeklander who headed up the Air Marshall training program prior to coming to USSA, and they take a lot from the Air Marshall program Mike developed. If you have not seen their facilities, check out their video section, and flyover video

Home Defense Course in Richmond, IN & Columbus, OH
We are offering our home defense course in Richmond, IN and Columbus, Ohio.
Most people have a false sense of security when it comes to personal safety and home safety. One reason that a lot of people don’t have a home invasion plan because they don’t think that “it will happen to them”. If you don't have a plan or execute that plan ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH THOSE YOU LOVE, then HOW do you expect to execute that plan when your lives may be in danger? Now, whether or not guns are present in your home doesn’t mean there are not other tools available in the home to defend yourself with. Most of the information is valid whether or not you have a gun or guns in your residence. One of the most important things you can learn how to deter burglars from choosing your home. Our Home Defense Course is designed to deal with three situations that you are likely to encounter. 1. The first one is that you are awakened in the middle of the night due to some sort of odd noise. 2. Secondly, you come home and find your home broken into. 3. Lastly, you enter your home unaware there is an intruder. Home Defense Course Curriculum. • Four layers of home defense. • Discuss the three types of burglars. • Communication: with loved ones and intruders • Light intimidation (including the use of handheld tactical lights) • Setting up your home for tactical advantages (including furniture, mirrors, etc.) • Items needed in a safe room and how to position your loved ones in the safe room to reduce the likelihood of them being in the line of fire. • Communication: with loved ones and intruders • How to effectively search your home with a handgun, shotgun, or carbine. • What you need to take with you when searching your home. • Moving quietly throughout your dwelling. • The role of the “significant” other in a home defense plan. • Audio and visual target indicators • Gun retention techniques for handgun, shotgun, and carbine. • And much more… We have had people email and ask if the course is going to be conducted in a dwelling and the answer is yes! Most of the class is hands on. Please visit our website for more information and course dates. We accept Visa, MC, or Discover and you can pre-register online.

Combined Course, Southnarc, Ed Lovette, Tom Givens
Exciting Class Announcment
On April 12-13, 2008 (Saturday-Sunday) Rangemaster will host a unique training opportunity in Memphis for those serious about personal security. Southnarc, Ed Lovette, and Tom Givens will each teach segments involving their personal specialties, and students will rotate among these trainers, getting an incredible amount of information and skill in one weekend. Southnarc served in the US Army Rangers before entering law enforcement. He is currently the commander of an inter-agency drug enforcement task force and a SWAT Team leader on the Gulf Coast. For a number of years he did undercover drug work, resulting in a number of serious physical assaults on him. These assaults included “rip-off” robberies, much like the robberies private citizens fall victim to every day. Southnarc is one of the most analytical trainers I have ever met, and as a result of these incidents he made a thorough study of such things as Pre-Assault Indicators, Weapon Access During an In-Progress Fight, Empty Hands Skills to escape from a grappling attack or multiple assailants, and more. He will be teaching these skills in two phases. “Managing Unknown Contacts” deals with the critical pre-fight processes involved in observing and assessing potential attackers; positioning to shift the advantage to you; verbal interaction; and decision making skills. These “pre-fight” activities often actually determine the outcome of the real fight, when it comes. More importantly, they often deter an assailant from carrying out a planned attack, as he realizes you are a harder target. The next phase will be Practical Unarmed Combat, which deals with proven, simple realistic techniques which can be learned and maintained without a lifetime in the martial arts. Southnarc’s skills are simple and straight-forward and work well. Ed Lovette worked as a police officer for a number of years, including a period as a firearms instructor at the New Mexico State Police academy. He then joined the CIA as a paramilitary officer, retiring from that position recently after serving in hot spots all over the world. In the CIA, Ed often had to move through areas of great danger while keeping a very low profile. He developed two things in that arena- one, the ability to observe his surroundings and look for things that might tip him to coming troubles, and second, a fondness for a deeply concealed small frame revolver, often called a “snubby”. Ed will teach the observational and mental skills needed to spot threats ranging from stalkers to robbers and carjackers, based on his vast experience in counter-surveillance and stealth. He will also teach live-fire skills with the snubby revolver. Ed literally wrote the book on this subject. The Snubby Revolver, The ECQ, Backup, and Concealed Carry Standard, from Paladin Press is recognized as the authoritative text on the subject. Tom Givens, chief instructor at Rangemaster, spent 25 years in law enforcement and specialized security work before becoming a full time trainer in 1996. Since then, Tom has trained thousands of students in armed self defense, and every year several Rangemaster students successfully defend themselves against armed attackers. Tom is an FBI and NRA certified law enforcement firearms instructor, a champion competitor in both IDPA and IPSC competition, a nationally recognized court expert on firearms training, and the author of several books, including Fighting Smarter. Tom will focus on handgun skills designed to work well under stress. Training will include effective gunhandling and marksmanship techniques, stress inoculation, fast but precise shooting skills in both daylight and low light conditions, and mental conditioning. Regardless of skill level, your shooting will improve as a result of this course. Students will need a sidearm, quality holster and belt, at least three magazines for the primary gun, and 600 rounds of ammunition for the primary gun. A snubby or other backup gun is recommended, along with 250 rounds of ammo for it, and a suitable carry method. You will also need a good flashlight, like a Surefire 6P, 6Z, 8X or similar and street clothes, including a concealment garment. You will also need work-out clothes, soft shoes, a cup and a mouthpiece. We will supply workbooks and guns that fire marking cartridges. A detailed equipment list will be sent out prior to class. Ammo is available here or bring your own. The cost of this course is $499.00. This is quite a bargain considering you’re getting three courses, from three well respected trainers, in one location. There are several hotels within blocks of Rangemaster, ranging from basic Extended Stay or Holiday Inn to a very nice Marriott. Call 901-370-5600 to register. Class size is limited. |

Louis Awerbuck - Tactical Shotgun class in Baton Rouge May 8-10
For southern types who aren't checking www.louisianaselfdefense.com daily for updates
I just sent out the word about the class - The email message - May 8-10, 2008, *the* Louis Awerbuck will be teaching Tactical Shotgun here in Baton Rouge. This is a tremendous opportunity to train with one of the best instructors in the world, using the weapon that is considered his specialty. The flyer attached provides more info. This class is open to anyone who is a law abiding citizen or law enforcement. WE NEED TO GET A COUPLE MORE DEPOSITS BEFORE MARCH 15TH!!!!! I've heard a couple consistent comments about this class, so let me address them - 1. "I'm interested, but don't have a shotgun, or don't have an appropriate shotgun." No biggie - I can lend you a gun if you need one, but your gun may be more appropriate than you think. Awerbuck suggests the humble Remmy 870 for the class, but any mainstream shotgun will do, pump or auto. 2. "I want to take a training class, but I'm not interested in the shotgun specifically." If you haven't trained before, or haven't take a class with long guns - 80% of the material is the same as far as the tactics. The class will specifically address what the shotgun can and can't do as opposed to a rifle. This material translates well. MORE IMPORTANTLY, this is an opportunity to work with one of the best instructors in the world on your mindset. By all accounts and endorsements, Awerbucks lecture alone is worth the cost of admission. This guy is one of the top in the world, hands down. I can't stress enough that if we don't fill these classes, instructors like this will not come to the area. XXXXX of the XXXXX and I go through a lot of effort as volunteers to put these classes together. This is *world class* training in our backyard - no need for airfare, hotels, rentals, meals out... all you need is a couple hundred bucks of ammo and you are good to go. PLEASE take advantage of this training opportunity so that we can continue to bring in other trainers! We're hoping to get Tiger Mckee back this fall for a carbine class... Thanks, Paul PS - I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who would take the class, absolutely committing, if it were a handgun format instead of shotgun. More detail on the class - Tactical Shotgun Class Taught by Louis Awerbuck May 8-10, 2007 Baton Rouge, LA This course is designed to create reflexive gun handling, competent marksmanship and tactical thinking. In addition it places strong emphasis on learning what the shotgun will, and most particularly WILL NOT, do. The importance of patterning the shotgun properly is discussed at length. The course also covers ammunition selection, loading and unloading, reloading and ammunition selection while involved in a shooting scenario, shooting from several ready positions and various tactical body positions, dim-light and flashlight shooting, shooting on the move, moving targets, multiple targets and weapon retention. Transition to a pistol is covered for those clients who have taken prior pistol training. Ammunition requirement is 400 Birdshot, 50 Buckshot and 70 Slugs. Tuition is $500 for three days Lead Instructor Louis Awerbuck served in 1 Special Services Battalion in the South African Defence Force, and is a member of the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI), and the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA). He was employed by Colonel Jeff Cooper at the original Gunsite Ranch as Chief Rangemaster until 1987, attaining the title of Shooting Master. With three decades of instructional experience, Louis has been a contributory adjunct instructor to the Marine Corps Security Force Bn Atlantic combat small arms program and an adjunct firearms/tactics instructor for the Central Training Academy, Department of Energy. He has trained extensively in the police and civilian firearms field, and has instructed military personnel from various United States bases, including Special Forces units. Awerbuck has authored four books, "The Defensive Shotgun", "Hit or Myth", "Tactical Reality", and "More Tactical Reality", co-produced three videos including "The Combat Shotgun", "Only Hits Count", and "Safe at Home", and is Tactical Consultant and a contributing author to SWAT magazine. This class has been organized by www.louisianaselfdefense.com Please visit us to find out about other classes that will be offered. Please contact Yavapai Firearms Academy for information. Innovative Tactical Concepts Training Facility
We are pleased to announce that we are opening a training facility in Dayton, OH. The facility is not a shooting range. It is an indoor facility in which we can teach year round. Our Home Defense course is growing on a regular basis. So much that we are going to hold at least one class a month, and as it continues to grow (which we know it will) we will offer more classes. The training facility will have a mock house (1,200 -1,500 sq ft.) with movable walls in it in order to change floor plans, as well as to provide space for other training that we provide.
Force on Force training is another item that we are going to be offering out of this facility. We feel that Force on Force training is extremely important in truly preparing oneself to handle a life threatening situation with confidence and maximizing their chances of survival. Please visit our website for Force on Force course descriptions. We have made this training very affordable compared to most others who offer this type of training! As you would expect, our training is nothing short of high caliber!!! Those of you who are within about an hour or so drive from Dayton, we have made attending training opportunities on a regular basis easy and affordable! For those of you who are not within an hour or so drive, we encourage you to make the drive to come and train with us. We promise you that it will be worth the drive! The first course will be taught out of the facility on May 11th, 2008. Our Home Defense course is the course that is going to be taught at least once a month. Force on Force courses will begin in June, 2008. In the near future we will be offering these courses more often as well. We have chosen to teach the Home Defense and Force on Force training at this facility because these are courses are a MUST for anyone who is serious about protecting them selves and those you love!!! Other courses that we are going to be offering at this facility are gun retention, blade craft, hand-to-hand, and expandable baton. Basically anything that we offer that is not live fire. Innovative Tactical Concepts is not just a “gun focused” school. We are a TRUE FIGHTING SCHOOL and this is what makes our training unique. Depending upon the response we get, we may offer courses during the week for those who cannot make it on the weekends. So, please be sure to check our training schedule on a regular basis or inquire if you have three or more people who want to take a course during the week. Not only do we provide some of the most realistic and practical training available, we develop relationships with our students. We don’t just take your money and forget about you until we have another class coming up and hit you with emails. Our students spend good money to come and train with us, and we make every effort possible to maintain contact with them and hold them accountable to developing a home defense plan, and training on a regular basis with their newly found skill set from whatever course it was they took. We care about your life and we want you to continue to train on your own, and some people need a little encouragement. With that in mind, when you come to train with us, bring someone you know. There are two reasons for this. The first one is because at least you will know someone there and you will be more likely to attend a course. Secondly, once you leave, you will have someone to train with and help motivate you to keep training. As always, train hard, train often, and train REALISTICALLY!!! And we are doing what we can to provide you with realistic and practical training at and affordable price, the rest is up to you. _______________ Brian K.
