Rangemaster Firearms Instructor Courses

Rangemaster Three-Day Firearms Instructor Development Course
Lead Instructor- Tom Givens, plus other Rangemaster staff

April 5-7, 2013 Friday-Sunday 9am-6pm each day
Culpeper, Virginia

This is an intensive full three day (24 hours total) course that teaches candidates:
modern adult learning theory;
preparation, delivery, and documentation of training;
development of training aids, including power points and others;
coaching methodologies, diagnosing and correcting shooters’ errors;
modern, effective gunhandling techniques, designed to work under stress;
proper handling/operation of a variety of handgun types; and
effective, efficient combat marksmanship techniques.

The course time is divided about equally between classroom sessions and range firing, and each student will fire approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition. Students will act as coaches for other students, and each will be coached extensively in turn. Students also receive a 170+ page training manual, which is a valuable information and reference resource. To graduate from this course, students must pass a shooting qualification, pass a written examination, and conduct a brief presentation in the classroom on an assigned topic. This course satisfies the training requirements for the Tennessee Department of Safety to become a State Certified Handgun Instructor and the Oklahoma CLEET requirements to become an OK SDA Instructor. It is recognized for 24 hours of continuing education credit for law enforcement in South Carolina.

The classroom portion will be conducted in a meeting room in Culpeper, and the live fire range portions will be conducted on a nearby outdoor range.

For this course, students will need:
A serviceable sidearm,revolver or semiauto, of at least .38 Special or 9X19mm caliber ( .38 Special, 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 Auto);

We are in the process of renovating our range, and this course will be the very first public event we have scheduled. I have trained with Tom Givens several times, and it is a must do course. This course is perfect for someone looking for the next step after a concelaed handgun course or the experienced shooter looking to refine fundamentals. This course is also great for the police officer or armed professional.

I realize now I am embarrassingly delinquent on my AAR for the Advanced Instructor Course I took from Tom.... on it. Seriously though guys, this course is a great skill builder and the data Tom has compiled from the over 60 students he has had involved in shootings is worth the price of admission alone.

Here is my AAR of THIS SAME COURSE when I took it. HERE

Haley Strategic- Disruptive Environments: Handgun / Vehicle- Jan 29-31 2013- LA

ORIGINAL LINK

Disruptive Environment Courses-

These are not beginner level courses. I would say they are more like intermediate. We will not be going over reloads, parts of the gun, grip, etc. You should show up already having a solid foundation in basic weapons manipulation, trigger finger discipline, and an ability to recite and articulate the four firearm safety rules verbatim. Having attended a course from a recognized instructor (by our definition), is a pre-requisite. In lieu of that, recent LEO or MIL experience will suffice. A simple CHP course is not enough.

We will be pushing you mentally, physically, and tactically to put you in situations you will probably not ever find yourself in hopefully. The goal is not to do really cool things. The goal is to take you out of your comfort zone to create a disruption in your thought process, thus presenting an opportunity for you to exercise your problem solving skills in a stressful moment.

We are creating thinkers before shooters.

The course could probably best be describe as a training roller coaster ride where you will dip in and out of stress and have to make decisions and perform based on the environment, circumstances, and tools you are presented with.

Because of this, you need to be safe and proficient on the simple stuff. You also need to be in good enough physical shape to move around and break a sweat. You do not have to be a physical specimen, but you need to be able to get in unique positions, run, lift, jump, climb, and maintain stamina and physical and mental focus in a very hot climate.

Point is, do an honest self-assessment and make sure you are physically, mentally, and skillfully ready for this level of training.

There is nothing wrong with taking a basic level course more than once. After 15 years of teaching, I still take basic level courses when I can because we can always use more reinforcing of the basics.

Who Should Take this Course:

Who should take this course? ANyone who carries a handgun professionally or for personal defense- basically anyone with already sound fundamentals and safe weapons handling skills. We all operate in and around vehicles as part of our daily lives. It is probably that we will be the potential victim of violence in that environment. For some people who use a vehicle extensively for work, almost like an office, the threat is even higher. WIth road rage, random violence, etc... your vehicle is an environment you need to work on mastering.

Magpul Dynamics Pricing/Equipment Changed for 2013
Magpul Dynamics Pricing and Ammunition Requirement Update

In an effort to make training more accessible in these times of increased prices and reduced availability, Magpul Dynamics has updated their pricing structure, round counts, and acceptable calibers for the 2013 training year.

Effective immediately, all three-day classes are reduced to $600 per student, and two-day classes are reduced to $450 per student. In addition, the curriculum has been revised for all pistol/carbine courses based on the changes occurring over the past year to allow for maximum training value at a slightly reduced round count. Also, we are temporarily allowing the use of pistol-caliber carbines and 22LR AR-15 pattern training rifles in the carbine classes. Please understand that there are many drawbacks to training with 22LR as opposed to normal rifle platforms, but significant training value will still exist. We expect a full return to allowing rifle-caliber rounds only in the future as the ammunition supply catches up with current demand and ammunition prices return to a reasonable level. However, we understand the financial burden placed on students with the current state of the economy and the rapid rise in retail pricing in the ammunition industry. We firmly believe in the value of quality firearms training and are committed to providing quality products and services at a fair price.

Ammunition available for Magpul courses
At Magpul Dynamics, we understand the importance of quality firearms and tactical training, and it is our mission to provide that to the military, law enforcement community, and responsible, law-abiding Citizens. It is no secret to gun owners that the price of ammunition has skyrocketed recently, in addition to a steady increase over the past few years. Also, due to the high demand for ammunition currently, the available supply to an individual wishing to purchase training ammunition at a reasonable price is nonexistent.
Magpul Dynamics is pleased to announce a partnership with Magtech Ammunition to provide students with accurate, reliable, and consistent factory ammunition. This program will allow students to purchase ammunition to meet the course requirements for our program directly from Magpul Dynamics, and ensure fair pricing and availability for our customers. We are extremely appreciative of Magtech for providing us this opportunity to serve our students better, and helping us to meet their training needs.
Pricing and purchasing details for registered students will be released shortly, with initial availability of 7.62x51, 5.56x45, .45ACP, .40 SW, and 9x19 ammunition to meet the needs of the individual shooter. At this time, ammunition will only be made available to registered Magpul Dynamics students, up to the quantity needed to attend class. There are no current plans to sell ammunition outside of the training needs of our students, and students who pay for ammunition and subsequently cancel class attendance will receive a refund, and will not have the option of taking delivery of the ammunition. Please visit http://www.facebook.com/MagpulDynamics for further updates in the near future regarding ordering and availability.

Combative Pistol, Two-Day
Nappanee, Indiana
May 18 & 19, 2013, Sat-Sun

This is an intensive weekend course that covers all of the essential skills involved in fighting with a handgun. There is an all day session Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am to 6:00pm.

Topics covered in this course will include:
• Rapid presentation from concealed carry
• Effective gun handling techniques, designed to work under stress
• Rapid reloading techniques
• High speed accuracy at close ranges
• Precision shooting at mid-ranges
• Proper defensive mindset and more.

Expect to fire about 1,000 rounds of ammunition. This course is designed expressly for the armed citizen who carries a concealed handgun, or the plain clothes or off duty police officer.

You will need a good handgun, holster, belt, and magazine pouch, at least three magazines, a ball cap and concealment garment (vest, jacket, windbreaker, etc), eye and ear protection, and rain gear (we train rain or shine). A cooler with soft drinks and snacks is a very good idea.

You will need a quality handgun and gear. It is a good idea to bring a second gun just like your primary, in case something breaks on your primary gun. Please bring good quality ammunition. You will shoot better, your gun will function better, and you will learn faster.

Your primary instructor will be Tom Givens, of Rangemaster, assisted by other Rangemaster certified firearms instructors.

First Civilian Training Course

I will be attending my first handgun training course since receiving Army training on the M1911 .45 pistol way back in 1969.

On May 28 I'm attending the 4 hour Shooting Fundaments Course given by Core Profesional Training Solutions in Tallahassee, FL.

The course provides a Glock 19, ammo and eye and hearing protection.

I'm very excited about this.

MN shooters...Training announcement for central MN

Attached you will find a training announcement on a rifle course that Dave and I are hosting through Timm Training and Consulting. Dave and I are both LE officers in the Brainerd Lakes area. We both have extensive backgrounds in firearms training, not only in law enforcement but also in the military (Mike) and competition shooting (Dave). We have conducted other courses in the past but this will be our first two day rifle course. We kept the price low as we know budgets are tight. This is ideal training for the patrol officer and departmental firearms instructor as well as quailified civilians.

The course will be held in the Breezy Point/Pequot Lakes(North central MN) area on June 29th and 30th 2013. Cost is $200. This course is POST approved for 16 credit hours. Class size is limited to 18 students.

Below are some areas of training we will be covering:

-Carbine Prep and Maintenance
-First and second line gear
-Carbine and gear configuration
-Ballistics and practical application in tactical/practical environments
-Fundamentals of Marksmanship
-Numerous practical shooting drills to develop fundamentals
-Drills to build and reinforce loading, operation, and effective
accurate delivery of rounds
-Ammunition management, and loading techniques and types
-Compression of fundamentals to build speed
-Malfunctions and clearing techniques
-Optic malfunctions and use of back up sights
-Movement, shooting on the move

Carbine, Shotgun, & Pistol Training Courses - Brainerd Area
by Dave-HuldraArms on Wed May 15, 2013 12:06 am

Hi Everyone,

We are excited to have a great offering of training this year with multi-day courses in carbine, shotgun and pistol. We are also bringing back some training friends, top tier national trainers Louis Awerbuck ad Jeff Gonzales.

Here is our primary class training announcements for 2013, all classes are in the Brainerd Area. For more information please visit our webpage, linked below.

Instinctive Practical Carbine - Level 1 by Timm Training, 2 Days, June 29-30 Early Registration Price $200
Mike and I are very excited about this course, this early registration price is cheap. This isn't to lessen the value of training but as many of you know this is our first 2 day carbine course. What we will ask of you is some honest feedback and help with word of mouth promotion, as time goes on this price will go up. This is a comprehensive 16 hour course that is designed to establish a strong, efficient fundamental skill set when using a carbine. Whether for Law Enforcement, Personal Defense, Competition, or Target Shooting the foundation of effective accuracy is a solid understanding and delivery of the core fundamentals. The course will cover safe and proper carbine handling, ballistics, gear/carbine maintenance and prep, fundamentals of marksmanship, carbine manipulation and more.

Tactical Shotgun 1 with Louis Awerbuck, August 3-4 $540
Louie is back and is bringing some shotgun skills with him. For those that have trained with Louie before you know what a great experience it is. As with the Stage I Handgun, this course is designed to create reflexive gunhandling, competent marksmanship and tactical thinking. In addition it places strong emphasis on learning what the shotgun will, and most particularly WILL NOT, do. The importance of patterning the shotgun properly is discussed at length. The course also covers ammunition selection, loading and unloading, reloading and ammunition selection while involved in a shooting scenario, shooting from several ready positions and various tactical body positions, dim-light and flashlight shooting (dependent on time of sundown and range restrictions), shooting on the move, moving targets, multiple targets and weapon retention.

Combative Pistol 2 with Jeff Gonzales, August 23-25, $625, plus local range fee
Jeff of Trident Concepts is also back to train with us this year, except this time we are offering a handgun course with Jeff.
The Combative Pistol, Level Two (CP2) is an intermediate 3-day course focused on hammering out the rough edges to the modern gunfighter. It will instruct the pistol’s core fighting skills by using full range sessions and high repetitions to continue forging correct technique. The course will progress to more challenging drills that will increase the student’s shooting speed and combat marksmanship. Graded evolutions throughout the course provide instant feedback to the student on skill development, technique deficiencies and overall ability. The linear progressive training exercises refines the combative fundamentals in order to progress to more advanced courses.

For more information, and to register, please don't hesitate to contact us or visit our webpage. Fast links to the above courses is available on the main page on the announcement tab on the right.
http://www.timmtraining.com

As many of you know, Mills Indoor Shooting & Archery is open and a phenomenal firearms range and retail shop. More training opportunities through the range, smaller one day classes, will be announced soon.

Thanks everyone and we look forward to training with you!
