Bill Jeans Handgun and Shotgun: Boise, Idaho: Aug 2012

Bill Jeans (Morrigan Consulting; www.morr-con.com ) will be teaching his Defensive Pistol Course (basic handgun) and Combat Shotgun Operator course near Boise in August 2012. The host range is at Emmett, Idaho, about 30 miles from Boise. Please contact me for further information: benglandcom.2 AT gmail.com

This course will supplement the handgun concealed carry licensee or concerned citizen’s training with defensive gun-fighting skills based on the Modern Technique of the Pistol. It is an introductory level course directed toward shooters with little or no formal defensive handgun training but far exceeds a “basic pistol” course. Course material includes practical marksmanship, ballistics, a proven gun handling methodology, continuity of fire, malfunction clearance, mental conditioning for combat and more. Course fee is $525. Minimum 500 rounds ammunition.

August 10-12 (Fri-Sun): Combat Shotgun Operator
This intense course will provide students with the necessary doctrine and skills to effectively fight with the defensive shotgun, one of the most misunderstood weapons in the self-defense battery. Course material includes practical marksmanship, ballistics, a street-proven gun handling methodology, continuity of fire, transitional shooting, shooting with movement, mental conditioning for combat, one hand manipulation and more. Course fee is $525. Minimum 250 rounds birdshot, 50 buckshot, 50 slug, and 50 pistol.

Bill Jeans is a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, career law-enforcement officer, and SWAT operator. He has been a firearms instructor since 1980 and is a former Rangemaster at Gunsite, besides teaching at Thunder Ranch.

Monthly Training Groups

At some time or another, you have probably visualized how you will respond in a self defense situation. If you are like most gun owners, you see yourself “rising to the occasion” and performing flawlessly. Flawless draw. Flawless sight alignment. Flawless trigger control.

However, this is not realistic. Threats never happen when or how you think they will. You will be frightened. You will experience tunnel vision. Your fine motor control will vanish and your brain will turn to mush. All that will remain is instinctive muscle memory.

In other words, you won’t “rise” to the occasion. You will “sink” to the level of your training. If you only take a gun class now and then, you won’t have much muscle memory when you need it most.

That’s why ITC has started setting up monthly training groups in Indiana and Ohio. By attending a regular monthly class, you can learn good techniques and practice them repeatedly. So, when the time comes, your muscle memory will take over and you will have the ability to defend yourself properly.

Attending a monthly group can give you training similar to what we provide in our regular courses, but in a less intense and more frequent format. Each group session includes information and training in at least two topics, such as unarmed self defense, defensive knife, gun retention, gun disarms, etc.

Group training sessions are friendly, informal, and fun. You can come or go whenever you like. We don’t teach anything fancy, so you are welcome regardless of your age, skill level, or physical condition.

However, because our instructors must travel for these sessions, we require that on average a minimum of 20 people per session.

Cost is just $50 per month per person in advance or $75 the week of the session.

Awerbuck Yavapai Firearms Academy 2012 Course Schedule near Lewisburg, WV‏

This is a head’s up for the Awerbuck YFA 2012 shooting courses near Lewisburg, WV, at the Anvil Rock range.

YFA Tactical Handgun-Stage II will be offered on June 1-3, 2012 (FRI-SAT-SUN). The class is a follow on from the level I (Stage I Handgun) that is a prerequisite (or the equivalent) for taking Stage II. It begins with a full review and warm up of the Stage I course skills on the morning of Day 1, then progresses to more complex and demanding drills. See http://yfainc.com/courses.html#handgun2 . This encompasses a lot of shooting (800 rounds) for an Awerbuck course and provides an extensive preparation for defensive fighting and concealed carry. There will be NO NIGHT SHOOT in this course.

YFA Tactical Rifle/Carbine will be offered on September 7-9, 2012 (FRI-SAT-SUN). This will be a full tutorial of the essentials for fighting rifle/carbine with handgun transitions (assuming you have taken a basic/Stage I handgun course). Most folks shoot the class with an AR-15/M-4 variant, AK-47 variant, Ruger Mini 14 etc.; however, bolt actions, lever actions and various .30 caliber semi-autos are used and appropriate as well. This is not a precision rifle class. See http://yfainc.com/courses.html#tacticalrifle . There will be a basic low-light/night instruction on the evening of Saturday, 8 September. An attached sling is mandatory for long gun in this course. Ammunition requirement is 600 rounds for the rifle and 100 rounds for the handgun transitions.

If you are interested, please go to the YFA Schedule page on the website, http://yfainc.com/schedule.html , look to the class co-ordinator on the right for Lewisburg, WV and contact him for details and course sign up.

Ayoob MAG-20 in Memphis

Massad Ayoob will conduct his two-day MAG-20 course at Rangemaster in Memphis on July 14-15, 2012. This is a twenty-hour classroom course, from 8am-6pm both days in our modern air conditioned classroom. This is the same class as the legal portion of the old LFI-I course. The sub-title of the MAG-20 course is “Rules of Engagement for the Armed Citizen” and it is an immersion level course in the legal issues involved before, during, and after a violent confrontation. This class is suitable for anyone who carries a gun for self defense. Cost is $400.00. Call 901-370-5600 to register.

The following day, Monday, July 16, Tom Givens will offer an optional third day, all spent on the firing range. “Advanced Pistol Skills” is an intensive course designed to polish and hone your defensive shooting skills. Topics covered include rapid presentation from concealed carry; gunhandling techniques designed to work under stress; accurate fire at high speed; malfunction remedies; and more. You will fire 500 rounds during an exciting and challenging day of course work. Our range is air conditioned, so the July heat is moot. Cost is $200.00. You may take this course along with Ayoob’s class, or as a stand-alone class. This is not a beginner’s class.

Rangemaster Dynamic Marksmanship, Weatherford, TX, November

Combative Pistol 2, Two-Day
DYNAMIC MARKSMANSHIP
Texas Tactical Range, Weatherford, Texas
November 3-4 2012, Sat-Sun

This is an intensive weekend course that covers all of the essential skills involved in fighting with a handgun. There is an all day session Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am to 6:00pm. This course picks up where CP1 ends. Students will be challenged with progressively demanding drills.

Topics covered in this course will include:
• Rapid presentation from concealed carry
• Effective gun handling techniques, designed to work under stress
• Rapid reloading techniques
• High speed accuracy at close ranges
• Precision shooting at mid-ranges
• Movement skills
• One handed shooting, with either hand
• Proper defensive mindset and more.

Expect to fire about 1,200 rounds of ammunition. This course is designed expressly for the armed citizen who carries a concealed handgun, or the plain clothes or off duty police officer.

You will need a good handgun, holster, belt, and magazine pouch, at least three magazines, a ball cap and concealment garment (vest, jacket, windbreaker, etc), eye and ear protection, and rain gear (we train rain or shine). A cooler with soft drinks, snacks and lunch will be needed.

You will need a quality handgun and gear. It is a good idea to bring a second gun just like your primary, in case something breaks on your primary gun. Please bring good quality ammunition. You will shoot better, your gun will function better, and you will learn faster.

Your primary instructor will be Tom Givens, of Rangemaster, assisted by other Rangemaster staff members. Tuition is $425.00.
