Did thy make these in a steel frame?

Did anyone ever make one of these with a steel frame? Can't find one anywhere. Our reenactment group had one of these out of the several "loaner" pistols we had. It was just like this one, brass .44 caliber. I carried it quite a bit myself, especially when we had to play as the "lobster backs"

(as we were a union outfit, only did that very rarely just to fill in on Confederate shortages)

Anyhooo....I was always very fond of that pistol, tried on several occasions to buy it from our company Sargent that it belonged to....which he always politely responded to with a smile and a firm "no way in hell son"

If anyone could help me out with a point in the right direction, I'd be grateful. Don't really even know what exact model it was (GRISWOLD & GUNNISON maybe? or a Leech & Rigdon? I know it's not a Dance Bros.) he always called it his scrounged Reb horse pistol. Think is was a Navy Arms. I know he bought it back in the early 80s

PS...the one pictured is on gun broker, it's not the one our unit had.

With a brass frame it's a Griswold & Gunnison. With a steel frame it's a Leech & Rigdon. Neither came in .44, they were .36's

Do you require the round "dragoon barrel" commonly seen on Confederate copies?
Look for a repro Leech & Rigdon:

Or you could just get a repro Colt with octagon barrel, available from many sources.

Do you require the .44 caliber for which Navy copies was not made in the 19th century?
Too bad, I don't care enough to search up such a mongrel.

thanks for the clarification! Hawg, you mean the originals were never produced in .44 right? Doesn't need to be historically correct for me as I just want a shooter, I just really liked the look of the L&R L&A and G&G...never really cared much for the blade sight and lack of cap protection on the Dance.

Yes the round barrel is a must, but no .44 is not absolute, I just have a ton of .44 ball and wads is why I said .44 that and my aforementioned units pistol was a .44.....Already have 51 Navys, working on a 61 Army. Thanks for the link! that price though...ouch

From the grip shape I'd say that gun looks like a Pietta. I had one once: brass framed, Dragoon style barrel, 44 cal.

It's most likely a Pietta or ASM. Uberti doesn't make them.

Hellgate....thanks for the ID of the pictured pistol. I just gave that as a reference to what I was talking about. I knew the gun I was looking for for was either a Leech & Rigdon, Rigdon & Ansley or Griswold & Gunnison pattern....

Thanks again to Hawg for detailing the frame specifics of each. Really like to find and older (but clean

) used one...ASM, pietta or any other...It's not real important which one as long as it's steel framed and in good shoot-able shape; as it will be getting semi defarbed, stripped, re-marked and re-blued.
