HK vs Ruger...this one is interesting

Here is my question. I want another 9mm pistol...I am debating 2 options.

Number 1 is to get one really awesome pistol like the HK P30 9mm or for the same money I can buy 3 slightly used Ruger 9mm's...a full size SR9, a SR9 Compact AND a LC9 all for the same price as a new HK P30...

What route would you take??

Dang, I'm kinda torn on that one. HK is my favorite handgun manufacturer while Ruger is my favorite American firearms manufacturer.

If you other carry guns, then you don't really need the SR9C and LC9. The P30 is an awesome shooter and it's one I regret getting rid of. IDK, if I have other guns, I'd get the P30....that's just me.

Well, I do have a P7 to scratch my HK itch...I love HK firearms but the Ruger option will give me a gun for every occasion.

id get the sr9c, and maybe a 1911 or sub2000 in 9mm or siaga 12. the sr9c will fill the role of the other two pretty well.

Or buy a Walther PPQ new, a lightly used Ruger of your choice, and some ammo.

PPQ is not approved for sale in this state As a matter of fact the HK P30 just got approved for sale so I would be one of the first on by block to own one.

That's what got me hooked on HK as well. My unit was doing some cross-training with German paratroopers and they were carrying their M8s, after playing with one I knew I had to have it. A couple months later after we got back was my 21st B-day.....the day I bought my USP Compact.

I have not had any experience with the HK. I do not need any to vote for the Rugers though. I own the 9c and have spent some time with the other two. They are excellent weapons that work exactly as advertised.

With that said, if money was not tight I would spend $1200+ on a new Colt 1911 with no remorse at all. Buy what makes you happy.

My PD is getting rid of our P229s. I wanted to buy own because I have so much gear for the gun and I like it. I went to an LE expo and the P229 officer price was $735.00. The Glock table was real close and their price was $399.00. I couldn't bring myself to pay almost double the price for the Sig. Went with Glock and never looked back. On a side note one of my favorite instructors really has taken to the SR9. I would take his word on the durability and value of that firearm.

I think HK handguns are my favorite but three ruger 9mm would be hard to turn down. Faced with your dilemma I would go with the ruger's. Three good guns vs. one great gun. The way things are these days I would get all I could while the getting was good.

This is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. I am selling my P-30, but I still voted HK.

Of the options I picked to Ruger one, but if it were my money I'd just grab the SR9c and pocket the remaining money. The HK will get you more compliments online but at the end of the day both will shoot the same 9mm bullet, well, the same.

I own an SR9, which has been 100% flawless for the two years I've owned it. Not a single FTF, FTE or any other hiccups.
I've been considering buying an SR9c or LC9 or LCP as an option for carry now that WI passed the law.
Based on my experience with the SR9 and my love of the "Made in America" tag, I'd buy the three Rugers, decide on keeping one or two of them, sell the other(s) and use that money toward ammo or another project.

I would go for the three Rugers.
HKs are nice and all but, not worth the price they are asking.
My preference would be for 2 Walther PPQs or PPS for a little more than what the HK costs.

I like keeping Americans working and I do not like paying 950 for one handgun.

To be honest, if you have an SR9C, there's not a whole lot of use for the full-size SR9. The SR9C has the same capacity (when using the grip extender), has a better trigger, and is every bit as accurate by all accounts. It also makes a great carry piece.

I have had many pistols in the last 40 years. So were impressive and some not and some junk...My "gun snob" side says HK but I got a Ruger SR9c last month and I have been quite impressed. It has been 100% reliable and accurate. It fits my hands better than any HK I have owned. Its AMERICAN made. That is a major factor for me. I don't think you need a SR9 if you have the compact. It will do everything the full size SR will do and more. That and a LCP would make a good combo. Spend the rest of the money on good leather, ammo and range time.

If you plan on using some of the Ruger guns for carry, then go for them, you have two good carry options. If it is just guns for guns' sake, then I say HK. I, personally, don't imagine going to the range and shooting off an SR9, followed by a compact version, and the LCP doesn't seem like a great range tool...

As both could be an option, I've not voted.

If your poll had been the HK for 950 and, say, the SR9c for a good used price, I'd say get the Ruger: a good gun for not a lot of money!!
