Best Deal on Bulk .45 ACP??

I'm sorry as I know this must have been covered already, but I'm looking to buy 500 or 1000 rounds of .45 acp practice ammo. Something like winchester white box or similar. I'd like the cases to be good quality as I will be reloading them at some point. Who's got the best deal out there, and what ammo should I look for?

Widener's has 230 gr RN FMJ for $16.45/box. It does use small primers, though, if that's a concern for you.

As long as my HK USP 45 and my Glock 21 don't mind, I don't mind. Does anyone know if there any issues using ammo primed with SPPs instead of LPPs?

Your guns won't mind - I only brought it up because you mentioned reloading the cases. .45 ACP brass that uses small pistol primers are a relatively recent development - for the longest time, .45 ACP used large pistol primers.

If you already have a bunch of large-primer brass, mixing in new small-primer brass could be a headache. If you haven't accumulated any brass up to this point, then it won't affect you.

I do have a few hundred cases that use the LPP. Any other suggestions?

AIM Surplus has Aguila 230gr FMJ for about $300/case of 1000. That's the best price I've seen on decent quality ammo.

Re-manufactured 45 ACP

230 Grain Berry's Plated bullet
850 fps
50 round box loose

Winchester Primers
Hodgdon Powder

While i've never used this ammo, it is the one i've picked out, though might go with the federal from widener's linked above. I run Southwest ammunition in my AR their run N gun series is flawless almost. Pull LC brass 77gr SMKs, hodgon powder, and federal 210m primers. Consistently gives me 1/2 MOA with my MK12 mod 1.

On the Gulf Coast, Academy Sports seems to have the best prices, they had a sale on Brass Blazer 50 round boxes at $17.99, bought 6 of them. Cheapest .45 ACP bulk seems to be $90 for 250 rounds UCM at the moment, no idea how good that is.
Bass Pro stocks lots of ammo but always seems to be way overpriced versus anybody else.

You can find good ammo prices online, but the shipping kills the savings often times. Target Sports (http://www.targetsportsusa.com/) usually has free shipping deals on bulk purchases of 1k rounds or more. The base price isn't always the best but with free shipping, I've found it usually ends up being the cheapest overall.

I picked up a case of nickle plated Remington 230gr FMJ for like $370 a few weeks back.

It seems like brass cased ammo is fairly consistent in price 35-40 cents per round for FMJ target ammo. Whether bulk or in 50 rd packs. Could go cheaper if you go with steel cased.

I save a little by reloading.

I plan on reloading for my 45acp but i wanted to start out without having to wait. I don't tend to really cater towards reloading for semi automatic weapons. I just hate chasing brass though it's not near as bad with a handgun as it is an AR.

I started the same way - bought about 500 rounds of different ammo, Blazer, Rem, Win, Hornady, Fiochhi - after I had collected all my brass, which is not too bad at my range (plus extras of the range pick ups - this is like free money) I started to reload. It helps that I was already reloading for my rifles.
Otherwise you will have to absorb cost of reloading equipment if this is the only cartridge you are reloading for.

I saw that Walmart had 100 rd WWB 230 FMJ for 31.99. That's pretty cheap.
They were sold out last weekend in my area though.

Price check today at Wal Mart shows $37 for that same box - still sold out though.
