My favorite 357 magnum revolver is my J-frame 640 because it is the one I carry with me and has the highest odds of saving my life.

My favorite 357 magnum to shoot is not a revolver but a Coonan Classic. But this is a revolver question so I will vote for the S&W 627.

My favorite is, and always has been, my Ruger Security Six. No Colt or S&W that I've had has been as sweet. Also, no other Ruger .357 I've had has come anywhere close to the performance of this handgun. It's one in a million as far as I'm concerned. The one I've had the longest is a Model 19 6" that I bought in '71, and it is a good gun, but it still isn't my favorite.

My favorite .357 is, of course, the Ruger BH. Only because I packed it everywhere in the hills, fishing, camping, etc. as a kid and young adult. Still have it, though I've moved on to .45 Colt and .44Special as being the favorite calibers and fired in Ruger Single Action revolvers. Doesn't get any better.... .

I can only say two for sure cause that is all I shot. 1st was the S&W 686 local gun store had a expo and I got to shoot it ( sadly only 38sp loads ) and 2nd is the Taurus 617 which I own and is my EDC for now.

It's a toss up

S&W Model 27 3.5"
Actually, I think the blued version looks much better

S&W Model 19, 2.5"

Salvo, what a great old Flattop with the plumb colored loading gate. The pic of its 50th Anniversary relative with the casehardened frame is also nice. I have a pair of New Vaqueros in .357 that I shoot in SASS matches.

This thread does my heart good in this world of polymer guns. When I got interested in shooting in my teens, the .357 revolver was king for all the reasons you folks know.

I do wish that you guys would refrain from posting pictures of six inch blued Pythons. That was what I wanted for my first .357 but I couldn't afford it (the sound you hear is me kicking myself). Now that I can afford one, I can't afford one because the prices are crazy.

In the spirit of "dance with the one ya brung", I'll nominate my first centerfire revolver, a six inch stainless Security Six. It is stock except for a Trapper spring kit (remember those?). It was not as flashy as the Python but it has digested uncounted thousands of rounds of .38 and .357 loads with nary a bobble. I came really close to buying a six inch Model 19 instead (my first revolver was a Model 17) but that was when all the talk about K frame .357s shooting loose was going around. Plus the Ruger was less expensive.

I used to shoot the Ruger in IPSC competition with hard cast bullets in reasonably stout .357 loads. The trigger was not as smooth as a Python but it did not stack. It shot better than I did.

A couple of years later Smith & Wesson introduced the L frame and I purchased a four inch 686. I've shot that gun a pretty good bit as well but Smith kind of spoiled it by introducing the "plus" model. At a recent gun show I ran across one of the five inch 686 plus guns with the full lug barrel and hi-viz sights. I was thinking that would round out my collection nicely.

OK, so that covers six, five, and four inch .357s. Now to find a three inch Model 13....

Favorite?

I've got many of 'em!

From J .38 to Security Six .357 to 640-1 to Speed Six to S&W 66-1 to GP100!

And 686-3 and a S&W 66-3!

And last a good S&W M60 .38 with my S&W 66-4 (both with Secret Service stocks.)

They are all my 'favorites'! But I do pack Glocks for social purposes.

A half century after Salvo's patriarch, Ruger is maintaining the bloodline.

Toss up between the 4 5/8" BH & the 6 1/2" BH.

6" s/s GP100 would be the bidness, as well.

My favorite is my deep blue S&W M586 4" bbl Distinguished Combat Magnum. I love it so much I want a 2 1/2" or 3" round butt L frame next. And maybe even a 6 inch or a 5 inch custom.

Wish I could afford a Python! My brother has one he bought back in the 70's for about $700. I thought he was nuts! Now look at what they are going for. They are absolutely perfect, in my opinion.

+1 to that^^

I have a new S&W 686+ 3" nickel that I put faux ivory Eagle Grips on. Looks and shoots fantastic. But the 4" deep blue S&W 586 from the early 80's just has a bit better balance and shoots better somehow.

You'd think the extra round in the 686+ would be about the same as the extra 1" of barrel in the 586, but it just isn't. Can't explain it in words.

I have acquired several .357's over the past four years. I love them all but here is how I rank them:

1. 627-2 PC 8 shot (two of these) 5"
2. Colt SAA 5 1/2"
3. 27-5 with 3 1/2"
4. 28-2 4"
5. Ruger LCR
6. Ruger Blackhawk

When it comes to the double action, I really like the N frame the best. I carry the 627 for LE duty and for off duty I conceal the LCR.
