Learned similar tactics in various self defense classes I took as a teen, reminders to keep those learned skills as a natural reflex are always good

Also, good trigger control on part of the "attacker," even with a fake gun.

On a somewhat related note, Popular Mechanics has an excellent article covering Force-on-Force training for civilians using Simunitions:
