Sorry, I don't know any good books. Quite honestly, I think you would be better off with a FTF demo to see how it is done. You might do well with some of the videos on YouTube.

The problem with flintknapping in general is that it is an art, not a science, though it is based on the science of fracture dynamics, pressure waves, etc. It takes a LOT of practice.

You might look at...

See if you can find something from Bruce Bradley on the web. He knaps projectile points but the basics are the same. May be some info out there on French flint knappers also.

Do yours work? If so just keep doing it, you'll get better over time. If yours don't work look for sources.

You will get a lot of good info there.
I'm a flinter and have tried knapping. What I get are cut fingers and a lot of useless chips.

There's nothing like cutting that first finger open in the field across a razor-sharp flint, watching the blood dribble, to make you feel sick and stupid at the same time...

I tried refracturing my old, dulled english flints using an antler point. I was a miserable failure as a caveman armorer.

i tried it and gave up when i ran out of fingers to slice open. and i was accused of trying to screw the cat and that was the last straw. now i look for good flints at gun shows and store close outs. eastbank.
