230 grain 45 Colt Load Data

Hello All,

I am very new at reloading and want to see if i can get some solid data before i exchange the bullets i just bought since i cant seem to find any reloading data on them.

I bought 230 grain FMJ .452 diameter bullets and Hodgdon Titegroup powder (and of course brass and primers).

Can anybody point me to a website or some data using titegroup or even reloading data using 230grain FMJ bullets.

Go straight to:
http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

Note they specify lead bullets, so you may want to consider an exchange. (Hornady had a load for a 250gr jacketed that closely approximated Bullseye, but no other loading manuals -- that I have) Loading ratios are so low in that big case that I cannot recommend it.

Thanks. I've already visited the hodgden data center site.
All i see for titegroup is 230 GR. CAST LRNFP
I suspect there is a differnce between Lead Round Nose Flat Point and FMJ so i came to the firing line to seek advice on where to look.

Thanks!

See #2 above.

The 45(Colt) is best suited to Lead 240-250gr and above.

The problem is in case fill..... (25-30%) and all the challenges that entails.

Thanks Mehavey! I'll go ahead and exchange. No reason to fool around. I have the lyman 49th ed handbook but do you have any recommendations on bullets that would play nicely with hodgdons titegroup?

Go to page 391 and choose #452424 (actually any of the 250-255gr Lead SemiWadcutters will do, but that one's closest to the Keith design.) It's not a bad target loadout from Min to Max, but you'll have to pay close attention to looking into the cases afterward and double check ~proper charge.

IF (and only if) YOU HAVE A RUGER (from Hogdon Website again)
260 GR. NOS PART Hodgdon Titegroup .451" 1.650" MIN/8.0gr 945fps 21,900 CUP MAX/9.3gr 1065fps 28,800 CUP
This is double the standard 45 Colt SAA spec.
Be forewarned

(Personally, I'd stick with the traditional Lead Keith/standard load and enjoy myself a whole lot more)
