It's up to the individual hospital, call their H/R Department first and ask, I use On-Base hospitals so I can't carry anyway.

No general prohibition in VA on hospital carry. If they ban guns there should be signs at the doors. However, even if there are no signs and they ask you to take the gun out, then you have to do that.

Veteran's Hospitals
I imagine Veteran's hospitals ban all firearms and blades of any size. I have used VA facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi. All have very sensitive walk through metal detectors and federal police officers at all entrances.
I leave my cc and pocket knife locked in the trunk. I haven't lived in Virginia since early 70s, but I imagine it's the same there. JIMSPD9 |

As wally626 notes, there is no general prohibition on carrying in hospitals. However, many hospitals have "No Firearms" signs at their entrance. Can't speak to VA facilities.
