Apex Tactical DCAEK for M&P is Spectacular!

I am nothing short of amazed at how much better the Apex DCAEK kit has made my M&P9. I have not installed the second kit onto my M&P40 yet, as I am going to give them some shooting side by side. A friend wants to feel the difference for himself.

Let me say that I am very happy with the results and I think the DCAEK definitely lives up to(and surpasses) its hype. Many people talk about just ordering the sear, and while that did make a nice improvement on the feel of the break, there is MUCH to be gained with the Apex firing pin block and replacement springs. At first, I got the sear and other frame springs installed and the break was noticeably better. I did not immediately put in the firign pin block because I had to go and buy an allen wrench small enough to fit the sight screw. The grittiness of that squared off block was still awful and made reset equally bad.

Once I got the sight off and dropped in the new block and spring, I put the gun back together and WOW... what an amazing trigger this turned out to be! My biggest complaint about the M&P has always been that, in my opinion, both the Glock and XD had far superior trigger from the factory. With that said, I generally do a trigger job on any Glocks or XD's I purchase as well. The only one I have not done that to is my XDM Compact, simply because it doesn't need it. I don't know if I got a particularly great factory model... but the trigger is very, very good. This is not a normal XDM trigger, as I also have a full size XDM 9 and XDM 45.

The entire take up of the M&P trigger is now very smooth. There is no grit or crunch in the travel. The take up is slightly heavier than the stock take up. This is due to the replaced trigger spring. I actually like it. It's a little heavier but it's more smooth. This is done because the pressure required to break the Apex sear is less than that required to break the factory sear.

Reset is not quite as positive as it is with a Glock, but few guns are. Nonetheless, the reset with the DCAEK is much superior to the stock configuration that feels like the trigger is dragging through a bowl of mashed potatoes with grits. It is smooth and there is a subtle yet definitive 'click' at the reset point, which is quite short.

Overall I am thoroughly impressed by the changes in the trigger and my one and only complaint against the M&P has been rectified. Admittedly, it would be nice if they shipped it from the factory with a better trigger, as it is a very easy gun to work on, and a few simple changes really improves the feel.

I no longer feel like the trigger feels cheap and wobbly. That was apparently all due to the sloppy trigger travel in the stock formation. I encourage anyone considering this modification to jump in with both feet. It's easy to install. There is no gunsmithing needed.

Go for it!

There is. There is the DCAEK and the CompAEK -- Duty/Carry vs Competition.

The Competition kit brings the trigger bull down around the 3lb mark, while the Duty/Carry kit keeps it around 5lb or so. It may, or may not help her, depending on why she is shooting low. If she is slapping the trigger and/or flinching, it may help. If she just hasn't adjusted her POA/POI sight picture for the M&P, it may not.

Installed this myself on my M&P40 and the difference is phenomenal. Look at the other videos and learn how to turn your M&P in to a superb fighting gun.

I was looking at it, but wasn't quite sure how it works... I was tempted, indeed... but I'd really like to see on in action first.

For those who don't know me, my name is Scott Folk, I'm one of the owners of Apex Tactical Specialties. I'm the guy holding the camera while Randy does the install videos.

Uncle Malice,

Thank you for the kind post about the Apex Products. It's posts like yours that spread the word about our parts and makes everything possible.

We posted videos about the RAM on our You Tube Channel, you can see Randy talking about how it works and demonstrating how the trigger can be reset manually.

Here are links to each video.

Thanks for the post, Scott!

It's always a pleasure to see representatives from the companies whose products we use post here on the forums.

I have checked out the video's and the RAM definitely looks interesting. I am going to go ahead and order at least one to see how I like it.

You guys definitely have a hell of a product there, and I'll continue to do my part in recommending it to anyone I know that has or is considering the purchase of an M&P pistol.

Cheers,

UM

I've heard that the entire package can't be used with the M&P with thumb safety. Is that correct, or partially correct?

From what I understand the DCAEK kit is compatible with the manual safety version, just not the RAM.

According to the website, a manual safety model and .45acp model of the RAM is in the works.

I'll be sure to post my experience once I get the RAM in my gun too.

Uncle Malice is correct. The DCAEK works in all models, we have separate kits for the 45 caliber guns as they need a different Sear, but they produce the same result.

The RAM only works in the 9, 40 and 357 guns with the aluminum plug that takes up space when the ILS is not present, which means that it will not work in the Thumb Safetied models either. We have a Universal RAM in the works that will work in all the M&Ps, but that's all the info I can give on it at the moment.

Congrats Woody,

Trust me, you'll be amazed at the difference. And it's surprisingly easy to install. No fitting needed.

I just ordered an HD video camera today, so I can finally get started on my 2 video projects. Motorcycle vlogging and also firearms videos. I hope to make the M&P and Apex Tactical products one of my first subjects.

looking forward to the videos!!!----uncle
thanks for talking me into the apex kit,was still undecided in which kit to get.i thought the competition kit would be fun,but may be to light of a trigger for carry and home defense? it looks like if i want to change it,the only difference is a few springs that sell for arounf $30.00 from apex?

For those who have more money than time, no tools or are all thumbs....I asked a local smith how much to install the kit(s) he indicated that the labor was $40.

I have one set need to order the Ram, and another set to cover two S&W.

Oddly enough I found the trigger on my 40c better than the 9Pro out of the box.

IIRC I ordered mine from Midway USA.

I just got my DCAEK yesterday and installed it last night. While it wasn't as easy to install as it seemed in the video (had a devil of a time getting the roll pin out, then the striker block didn't want to come out, and getting it back in was another bear) but once I got everything lined up and back in, the difference from what it was before was amazing, and it was pretty good before. Something else really impressed me...with the trouble I had getting the striker assembly in, I had emailed Apex with a plea for help. I did finally get the thing in, but I still got a call from Randy at Apex offering assistance. I don't think you can beat that kind of service. As soon as the tax refund gets here, there will be a DCAEK in my M&P .40's future, too!

Outstanding product and service!
