Travelling with CCW
I will be driving from Michigan to Florida in a week and all the states that we will be travelling through have reciprocity with Michigan as far as CCW goes. I will be flying back and will need to pack my pistol in my luggage, which is acceptable according to American Airlines, provided I use proper cases.
Has anyone done this and are there any areas that have differing laws that I need to be aware of? I read of a guy who was flying from Utah to PA and got re-routed to Newark and had to spend the night. When he went to check his bag the next day, the Port Authority arrested him and he spent 10 days in jail because of Newarks anti pistol laws. They said because he had his suitcase overnight that he was in violation of the law. I will be coming back through O'Hare, which in Illinois they do not allow concealed carry, and if I get stuck overnight, how do I avoid that situation? |

www.handgunlaw.us lists each state's laws surrounding CCW and firearms in general. It's where I'd start looking but man, Chicago is a different critter. I'm driving there in a few weeks and I'm leaving mine at home. Good luck.

If you must bring the gun with you, in the event you miss a connection at O'Hare do NOT pick up the suitcase with the gun in it. Tell the airline they own it until it arrives at the final destination. |
