It is an RG .38. They were a family of poorly made revolvers that were imported in the 1960's and 70's. Many consider them unsafe to shoot and they are most often found in the disposal bin at those municipal buy back events.

They sold new for around $25 which is about what they are worth today.

If I were you I would pass on it and save your money for a safe and sturdy .38 Spl revolver. Say a nice used Ruger or S&W.

John Hinckley used a Röhm .22 revolver to shoot Reagan.

I'd pass on it.

RG (Rohm Gmbh) revolvers are best used, empty, as door stops, paperweights or fishing anchors. They weren't very well made to begin with and fail to age well. They were plagued with brittle springs and other parts.

I'd rather buy a used Taurus if that gives you some idea. Save your money for a much better gun.

Good choice.

I had a RG .38 Spl that my cheapo father-in-law gave me for getting him 5 cords of firewood.

I could stand 7 paces from a paper plate and not be able to hit it shooting all 6 shots.

I disassemble it and flattened the barrel with a hammer.

Daily carry? Ruger LCR or a S&W 642, IMO, are hard to beat.

Utility revolver? Ruger GP-100 or SW 686 SSR.
