Calls for new legislation no doubt, but hopefully calmer, more logical heads will prevail.

As an aside, I find it disturbing that blame is already being assigned to the gun culture, certain political movements, etc, etc; and the identity of the shooter, his possible motivations and state of mental health, isn't even known yet. Business as usual for some factions I suppose.

My prayers go out for her and her family as well as the others injured and effected.

The report was that she had died, but now that has been redacted and they are reporting that she is alive, in critical condition.

I pray that she would survive and fully recover.

We can discuss blame and consequence later.

Nothing. She's in a district with some pretty wide ranging politics.
Border security and drug smuggling are very hot issues in her district, with significant resources & $'s on both sides of those issues. Conversely, there are significant numbers of people living in and around Tucson that would love to open the border to all their family and friends, free trade, and reopen AZTLAN wounds / politics / BS.

She's had a couple of bricks thrown threw windows and I don't know but expect there have been a fair number of threats based on people I know who used to work for congressional members.
She supported the Obama care, but also tried to support small businesses in her district that probably can't afford it.

It's a very diverse district.

OK, guys.

It doesn't behoove any of us to start trying to speculate on what the motives of the gunman was, or what she may or may not have done to deserve (and I'll simply and emphatically agree that the real answer to that question is NOTHING) an assassination attempt.

We start doing that and we're engaging in the same kind of speculation and aspersion casting that some are already doing by blaming the far right, the gun culture, etc.

I won't hesitate to shut this thread down in a heartbeat if it gets speculative or turns political.

Oh, and as of 3:33 p.m. eastern time CNN is saying that despite earlier reports of her death, the Congresswoman is alive, in critical condition, and still in surgery.

Fox News has reported that the first person to return fire on the gunman was a private citizen, not security or police.

Federal Judge John M. Roll apparently killed in the shooting. Now he hasn't been killed.
Fox has stated the possibility of an automatic weapon being used, not semiautomatic.
Also mention of a member of the crowd shooting at the shooter...apparently a veteran from the recent conflicts(the assailant not the crowd member).

Far too much speculation on the part of the news.

Terrible news all around.

Watching a video feed update from (ironically enough) KGUN in Arizona.

The trauma surgeon addressing the group said that the Congresswoman is out of surgery, he is hopeful for her recovery, and that one of the 10 patients brought to that facility, a young child, has died.

I wonder if Judge Roll was the primary target? He was the Federal Judge who ruled the illegals could sue the Arizona rancher who held a band of illegals at gunpoint waiting for the law to arrive. That was a highly controversial action.

Well,it looks like the guy that was an analyst for one of the national news networks that suggested on the national news and I qoute:"I don't understand why they just don't go get a firearm and just start shooting people,the mullahs have been saying to do this for months.Its a much more effective way of creating damage then using bombs ."...... got his message across.

It's basically sounding like the shooter wasn't that competent mentally... One of the guys here in the compound described his writing style as "rambling tweaker." They've also speculated (they, not me, Mike...) about an accomplice. If anyone knows anyone in the area with more info, it'd be nice to hear about anything that doesn't make the news...

The Safeway Grocery store at Ina and Oracle roads is not in any city. It's is in a gap between Tucson and the Town of Oro Valley. Pima County Sheriffs office will be lead local law enforcement agency on this one. The area is known as Casa Adobes after the shopping center at that corner, several attempts to either form it's own town or become a part of Tucson have failed.
