Brand new EMP gun barrel pitting? PICS

Springfield EMP 9mm.

Bought this gun 2 weeks ago. Got to the range yesterday and put 250 rounds down range. Came home to clean gun and found this. I'm not impressed. SA EMP.

Hope they make it right.

Are you positive that it's pitting in the barrel itself, and not pitting/irregularities in a layer of deposited lead? My EMP (.40 S&W) looked like that after my last range session, but some Hoppe's and vigorous application of a bronze barrel brush removed all of it.

Send it back to Springfield Armory under warranty. Let them fit a new barrel.

Not actually pitting but machining chatter from a dull cutting bit is my guess. Springfield will probably issue a call tag to service the pistol if contacted and forwarded the photos.

what will cause pitting? just curious never heard of this one yet.

Jolly Rogers I like your answer. Firearm is in route to SA as I write this. Customer service has been first class to date. I was emailed a shipping label for overnight delivery. Only bad thing is they are saying 4 weeks turnaround. I will post back when I hear something.

I would send it back, 4 weeks or not. Remember springfield was underwater earlier this spring. They're still backed up from that "disaster."

That almost looks like a hollow spot, if you look just under the land to the left, and the "pitting" seems to follow it.

I have an EMP-40 and it has FTF issues. Customer service was/is prompt. However, the FedEx shipping label showed an insured cost of only $500. I called SA and told them I wasn't playing that game. I've had my guns stolen before and wont re-buy them again. They need to re-gnerate a label covering full-replacement value $1,100+ I'm still waiting for a reply. All I need is another drugthug steel my gun and I'm stuck on the replacement costs. I'm confident SA will come through but I should'nt have to lean fwd and do their job for them.

The times I have seen chatter in broached barrels it has been way more than a small spot, but appeared just about all the way around the barrel (and repetitively).

An inclusion in the barrel steel would be more likely to produce the localized defect in the picture.
