Another (small) reason to use B/P instead of subs.
Because they measure smoother!
Yes, it's true!, it's true! (in my bestest "Lilli Von Schtupp" voice). ![]() I just tried some Black FFg & in my cylindrical type powder flask the rear end of the measuring spout is very sharp edged, an utter 90 degree shoulder. The substitute I have was jamming up & bridging to the point I could not get a full measure to drop into the tube, even with vigorous shaking. I tried some real Goex BP in the same FFg granulation & bingo it worked. & so to a tip/trick. I used the chamfer/deburr tool from my reloading kit to re-shape the inside rear end of the measuring tube to a cone & now everything passes through! Yay! (Yes it slightly changes the volume thrown, but I was in the process of reworking a 30 gr tube to a 27 grain volume so for me its no big deal, but if you decide to make a similar change you may need to remove a tad of material from the tip to regain your original volume.) |

You can also use that tool to chamfer the mouths of the chambers to allow much easier loading. It also cuts a bit of a "forcing cone on the rear of the barrel.

Black powder is the original oldie but goodie, but i like 777, water cleanup, higher power,no smells except burnt sugar, some of us cant hack solvents, fumes, and its only half as corrosive as black.

I used to use subs but the more I used real black powder, the more I realized how terrible it is not.
