Ice block stop bullets?

Anyone suprised by the results of these tests?

We shot this video the other day and we were shocked by the results. What we did was shot ice block and ice bags with a water jug or melon behind it to test for penatration. Check out the result and tell me if anything suprised you guys or was I the only one that sayed "WOW".

Interesting tests, although it would have been nice if you had specified the types of rounds used in all the tests... like when you said the ".308" and the first ".45" (one ice block) without telling folks what bullet type or weight. Was the first .45 a HP like #2 or was it a 230 FMJ? What about the .308? Was it a standard ball round or a HP?

The 45 was a JHP

I would like to see the test using an actual solid ice block. Still interesting though.

What with all of that, "Support you right to arm bears" nonsense, one can never be too careful!

Have you ever seen a Polar bear with a 308 when the seals are nowhere to be found? Not a pretty picture I can tell you!

Regular seals or the Navy guys? Either way if a Polar Bear was totin' a .308 I'd be headin' the other way...

There was a battle in Central America at a banana plantation IIRC. They had blocks of ice for the fruit so they built a fortification with them .The attackers could have waited a few days for the ice to melt but they were hot headed latins so they attacked and lost !!

For serious study of ice do research on the Coast Guard's efforts to destroy ice bergs in sea lanes . They tried torpedoes, cannon and everything else they could think of with little success !

Lb for Lb ice is stronger than steel. Curious as to how a solid block of ice would perform.

Army FM 5-103 "Survivability" has some tables in Chapter 3, pages 12 and 13 that you might find interesting. Note that the tables usually present worst case scenarios.

Not to mention the experimental ice and sawdust ships of WWII. Can't remember the name but they were heavily tested and only the end of the war prevented them from going into full production...

Try boiling the water before freezing into a block.

It drives out the dissolved gasses and eliminates the white gas bubbles in the ice.

It should make it even stronger.

Sooo you just proved our troops should be wearing blocks of ice instead of flak jackets! It serves dual purpose, protection and keeps them cool!

I did see an episode of Mythbusters where they added ice and saw dust together, it was extremely strong
