Smith model 29-4

Just wondering if anyone might have any idea as to what year the gun might be made. A friend has offfered to sell me his 44mag. with the 8 3/8 barrel for around $500.00. The gun is in very good condition, is this a good deal. Just looking for some views and advice.

According to my S&W book 29-4 engineering change started in 1988 and the 29-5 started in 1990. So it looks like 1988 or 1989 ...on your gun.

The price sounds fair on a blued gun.

I like the model 29 in an 8 3/8" barrel ( or the 6" barrel ) ...

That is a good price, depend on what you are going to use it for. For hunting the gun is top of the line, just don't use oil on it (oil sucks up water) instead use a good wax on it for protection. Mothers car wax does a good job, just put on with a solf tooth brush and wipe off.
