Pocket gun?
Check out the Rorhbaugh .380. Awesome little package of power. A little pricey but oh so great as a pocket pistol.

both the karh and keltec, make 9mm pistols that make good pocket pistols also most any of the small 38, 327 and 357 revolvers will work and you have weights from 22oz down to 10.6 oz. I have both a revolver and pistol that are less than 12.8oz that i carry and you can from time to time forget either one is with you. There are other out but not really what can be concedered small enogh for pocket carry do to cost or size/weight

I have two that I use for carrying in the front pocket of my shorts. A Smith 640 j-frame airweight loaded with DPX. It offers a great combination of comfort, weight, acceptable stopping power, concealment, and excellent reliability. I also carry a Ruger LCP for those situations when a .38 snub is just a little too big. The LCP is so comfortable to carry its easy to forget its in your pocket.

Ruger LCP, S&W hammerless J frames. And there are some new ones out too. You can't go wrong with the LCP or S&W. They fit in a pocket, are reliable and that's what you need.

I carry a keltec P11 in my pocket, works OK as long as the pants aren't tight and the shirts untucked.

I too have an LCP and a J frame smith .38 and usually carry both. Another even smaller option is the North American .22 magnum. I sometimes carry one and it is an extremely light 5 shot revolver.

442/642
My vote is for the S&W 442 (black anodized) or 642 (clear anodized) both hammerless/Centennial design in 38 spcl +p. I've been pocket and IWB carrying them and for pocket, there is a smooth rounded bulge in the right pocket which looks like a mostly eaten bag of chips or a cell phone or something. With the right shorts, no bulge is seen really. Good luck.

It's hard to beat the Ruger LCP for either price or reliability.
S&W Airweight revolvers are great light weight guns but are in my opinion (since you posted this in the revolver forum) a bit too big for pocket carrry. If you were dead set with going for a revolver, the Airweight is where I'd start though.

Hard to beat a hammerless J frame. The airweights are nice, but I prefer a stainless gun for carry. If dressed really light I carry a pocket auto, either a Colt vest pocket or Walther model 9.

I carried a Kahr PM9 in my pocket daily until I found a gun I didn't want to pass up and traded it away...I should have kept the pm9....It has better sights than most pocket sized guns, I liked having the power of the 9mm over the smaller caliber guns, and it was really accurate for its size.

Those of you carrying 442/642's... what do you find to be the best pocket holster for concealability and ease of use?

Here are my pocket protectors, an L-frame 296 AirLite Ti hammerless 5-shot .44 Special, long discontinued, and it's little sibling, a J-frame 642 Airweight hammerless 5-shot .38 Special:
![]() Both are in Robert Mika pocket holsters. A fast handle grab leaves the holster in the pocket. Helps with the 'print', too. The 296 is big - and still fits 3/4 of my britche's front pockets - the 642 fits everything. I had the 296 today at church - and later, at a restaurunt with a gun friend. I showed it to him - he had no idea - assumed I had the 642, as I carry it more often. Great holsters - for the measly amount spent! Stainz |

What makes a good pocket gun depends greatly on your style of dress. I always wear long pants (typically jeans) and a belt and can comfortably carry an all-steel S&W J-Frame in my right front pocket. My dad, however, prefers to wear shorts, often without a belt, and thusly cannot comfortably carry as heavy a gun as I can. I've settled on a S&W M36 for pocket carry while Dad has gone with a Taurus 738 TCP. I carry my revolver in either a Galco or Tagua pocket holster while Dad has found an inexpensive Uncle Mike's pocket holster that works well for him.

Only one pocket carry gun if you want to stay alive for sure.
The recent batch of .380 pocket auto's were tested by American rifle man magazine. All but the Raurbaugh (Spelling?) suffered frequent jambs. The Raurbaugh costs twice the price of the others and still needs gun-smithing for a decent double action trigger. And all this to shoot the Pi**ant .380 auto cartridge?
Buy a new Smith & Wesson 340PD air-lite .357,(or an old Model 37 air-weight like I carry) load it with the most powerful .38+p's you can shoot accurately and save your life with near 100% reliability. Or, get the 11 ounce 351 PD and blast them with 7 shots of .22 Magnum from close range. I once had to fire a .38 Special, 2" S&W revolver (during the Vietnam war) at close range with no more than the old 158gr/750 fps, (government issue) .38 special loads. Say all you want about ballistics but I am alive today. My target is not. Ignore the magazine articles and gun shows. If your gun jambs (current .380 auto's) or you miss your target (air-weight loaded with .357 Mag) it really doesn't matter what gun or caliber you are shooting! madcratebuilder don't be seduced by pocket auto's
See my reply re: the Rarghbaugh .380 vs a S&W Air-weight revolver. Maybe I am prejudiced because I am still alive at age 62. I have twice had to defend my life with a hand gun. I pray you never have to do so.
On New Years eve 1994, in the historic district of Savannah, I was walking my wife's tiny white Maltese puppy. A large black man passed us on the other side of the street, then crossed to my side, changed direction, and began rapidly following me and the little dog. There are many decent Gay men who live in the neighborhood. I have always thought my assailant assumed I was a timid Gay man. After two blocks he drew close to me and asked if I had a watch. I pulled my old S&W .38 from my pocket and replied, "No watch, just this gun!" The big assailant turned and ran. Good choice on his part! I killed a man during the Vietnam War after looking him in right in the eyes. Carry hand guns for defense and pray you never need them; twice so far I did! Want to play with guns? Buy a target pistol!! |

Ruger LCP + reliability??
So Kreyzhorse, what makes you think the new Ruger .380 is reliable? As an AMA life member I receive American Rifleman Magazine for free. I bet they hated to criticize the new crop of pocket auto's but they sure did! The Ruger was one of the worst, jambing frequently. Only the Rarbaugh, at twice the price of the Ruger shot without frequent jambing. Have you ever shot a current production Ruger 10-.22? If so, you may know the frustration many of us feel with todays good looking Jamb-O-Matic Rugers from Wallmart.
I buy lots of shirt's and short's from Wallmart but I have yet to defend my life with these articles of clothing. I have twice defended my life with an S&W .38 revolver. I only fired it on one occasion. Two shots. It was reliable and I an alive today because it fired both shots. Talk is talk and guns are fun but, save the fun for shooting paper targets and animals who can't kill you. For nasty people, I say S&W revolver if you want to win a gunfight. |

Been around a few years.
Either a S&W 38 Airweight or a Colt 380 Pocket Lite/Mustang. No Issues / Goes Bang Everytime
