Coming up on one year...

We are coming up on one year of having the bullet casting subforum. I am just curious of everyone's thoughts about it. I, personally, think it has been a success and have learned quite a bit from it. What do you guys think?

Any information that one can gather from it is a success to a certain degree to me. I only wish for more contributers. I know there's more to discuss. Taking a look at another board that specializes in casting, there's plenty of subject matter to exchange. Problem is, there's no forcing members to use what we provide. Our little subforum is no match for an entire board dedicated to casting. Only way we can grow is various members increasing the traffic. And since we're not about numbers here, it's purely up to them to make use of it.

Not a gripe. Just an observation.

As a newbie caster, longtime reloader I'm very glad I found this subforum. I've talked w/ other bullet casters but the info here is always what I'm looking for and accurate. No experience with the other forum you refer to but I'm happy here.
You've been a big help, ICH. Thank you.

He's been a bigger help than anyone can imagine. He's the one that came to us to push for a casting subforum. With the blessing from senior Staff, Johnny and I opened 'er up and the rest is history....

It went FAST !!!! but then again I`m to the age I can give good advice instead of settin bad examples !!!

& I just had another 1 of those B-day thangs:barf:

I vote to make it a regular forum , I think it`s too easy to overlook as a sub forum !!!

I really enjoy helpin noobees castin bullets , it brings back the experiences of when I started some 27 yrs ago.

Things change & info does too !!!

WW used to be the standard , now there hard to find !!!

My thoughts are - - - - - - If ya got em shoot em !!!!

Dunno, Tuttle8. We have a few very knowledgeable casters like ICH, GP100man, Crusty et al and a few noobs like me who need all the help we can get. Bullet casting is one of the oldest facets of our little game and also (for me, anyway) the most fascinating. Dunno if it's worth the time you and Johnny put into it but I hope you think so.
Thanks for your efforts, Tuttle8, Johnny. Johnny, we're gonna have to try a bit harder to get that cup of coffee we talked about.

It's well worth the time to have it. It's VERY low maintenance due to few urinating contests and none of the "vs." crap we have to contend in the other discussion forums. It's the easiest portion of the board to moderate to be honest. Unfortunately, the kid that needs the least attention normally gets the least...

I enjoy the casting forum immensely. The Casting 101 sticky is the reason I got into casting. I brows this forum quite often but only post after a *24 hour waiting period [I have posted a few things that I regret lol] I really enjoy reading ICH's and GP100man's comments.

* 24 hours waived on this one.

Another vote to make this a regular forum. For some reason, its very easy to miss at the top of the page. I dont know why, but it is.
If we have a place for SWAT and such, we should have a place for casting.

It's going to be a tough sell. There were valid arguments on not having it as a forum. If members feel so strongly about wanting it as a forum, it wouldn't hurt to bring it up in the Staff Lounge again.

I think it's a good addition to the forum.

I was going to add that it might get more exposure as being a Forum instead of a sub-forum. I know I didn't stumble across it until a few weeks ago. I've been posting for awhile, and I didn't even know it existed.

Better exposure in the 'Skunkworks' might bring in more traffic.

I guess we could promote it a bit on the other forums when cast bullets come up. I think we're in the right place as long as the folks interested know it's here. We enjoy our little diversion but I don't expect many shooters to understand or be interested.
I'm glad we're here but I don't expect many folks to jump on the bandwagon just because of greater visibility.

If you do this, I caution that it's done in good form. We normally don't like lengthy discussions regarding other boards here. Don't take this in the same context as mentioning another board to find answers or provide other references.

Example of what's perfectly acceptable here:

Bill: "I'm getting ready to cast some bullets. What's the advantages/disadvantages of using aluminum molds?"

Rob: "There's nothing wrong with either. You want to prep the aluminum molds, especially Lee's by (blah, blah, blah). There's a sticky post on www.castboolits.com regarding how to prep them as well."

What's not acceptable is to start a thread up to focus the discussion regarding another board. We just don't think it's good form to do this. To be perfectly clear, we have no say on what's allowed for discussions on other boards and don't want to encourage mentioning the casting subforum here on other boards if they believe it's frowned upon.

I am very pleased that members are getting the most out of the casting forum. Johnny Guest really pulled through for all of us....

In his defense .... I understood it to mean that when casting your own bullets comes up in another area of The Firing Line ... that we direct them to the 'Bullet Casting' section of the forum.

I frequent 5 forums fairly regular & as a whole there`s alot of good folks that share an enormous amount of info that helps people that other wise would not have the help & the nudge to start shootin , reloadin, castin & general tinkerin & supporting the shootin industry!

True we have seen a few trolls & people that come just to start trouble !

But as a whole , Good People!!

Disco, that is a great idea! I knew we kept ya around here for a reason.. !

Here is what I am willing to do. I am willing to do a free give away of 100 cast hollow points, in .358' or .452"...sized and lubed, or naked. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide gas checks for either size, but can cast them in either plain base or gas check (if you have the gas checks). Disco, you figure out how we are gonna run this contest and PM me with detail and we will do it! Maybe we can make this a monthly contest... to really spike interest in both the subforum AND bullet casting in general!
