Questions about the .22 caliber semi automatic Ruger rifle
I am wondering: Can a .22 caliber semi automatic ruger rifle be shot without a clip? And can it be manually loaded without the magazine and then fired?
This is a very important question for a research paper and any expert (or any knowledge helps) would be of great value to me. Thank you! Last edited by cjtobias; June 14, 2010 at 02:24 PM. |

Yes,,,
It might not be easy to get a round in the chamber,,,
But almost any .22 semi-auto rifle can be fired as a single shot. There is bound to be some rifle out there that won't allow this,,, But in my 45+ years of shooting rimfire rifles,,, I've never encountered one. Open the action,,, Insert a round in the chamber,,, Release the action and pull the trigger. My nephew fired at least 250 round like this in my Model 60,,, Before I allowed him to load the tubular magazine.

It's a MAGAZINE ... not a clip. Yes ... it will fire without the magazine.

If by "clip" you mean magazine, the answer is yes, a Ruger .22 rifle can be fired without a magazine. It is a pain in the butt for most rifles though. I'm guessing you are talking about a 10/22 semiauto and it is definately awkward to load one round at a time.
I assume you know very little about firearms and are going to be doing some sort of report or story involving this scenario, so let me help you out by informing you that an ammunition feeding device which completely encloses the rounds is a magazine, not a clip. A clip is something different that is usually used to load a magazine and holds ammo without enclosing it. |

Not handy or practical to do but it can be done. Some Semi-Autos are easier than others and the 10/22 is not one of the easy ones. Be Safe !!! |

PULEEESE......
THe 10/22 is fairly easy to single load with the magazine removed. You have a good size opening to use, where the magazine would be.
What's not easy to do is single load the gun while keeping it upright, or shouldered or on target. Then you have to work through the ejection port, a much smaller opening, and if you don't get the round in the chamber before you release it, it falls out of the big hole where the magazine ought to be! The 10/22 has been with us a long time now, (without looking it up, I thinking around 40 years, give or take) and what made it so popular was, aside from it being a pretty good working gun, was the fact that after a little while, people figured out how its design lent it to easy parts swap for modifications. It does that so well, it became the premier customizable .22 auto rifle. stocks, barrels, magazines, trigger groups, everything has come to be made for it, in a wide variety of styles. You can't do that easily with a tube magazine fed Rem Win Marlin, etc.
