What Size Media do you use in your tumbler?

Just pick up a bag of WalMart corn cobb beding for my tumbler. Seems a bit large. Not all that happy with the results. In the gun stores, all I can find is the "fine" corn cobb. Have added Lyman pre-treated fine corn cobb and seem to work a little better.

Question - what size media works the best for you??

Thanks
Jim

Well, I don't think the media companies use any kind of standard to measure particle size, but I can report that the corn cob media that works very well for me is the exact right size to get stuck in the flash hole of a .223 case!

Is that the Zilla "Lizard Litter"? I saw that *once* at the local PetsMart but didn't buy any, figuring it would be there next time. Haven't seen it since, and it's been over three months.

From the bag: "Zilla: Where Reptiles Rule. Ground English Walnut Shells. Premium Reptile Bedding."

That stuff and Nu-Finish does a fantastic job. I tried that Walls-Marts corn stuff and it is WAY too big. Plus I had to go into Walls-Marts:barf: LOL.

One more thing, you should be tumbling BEFORE you size.

I do tumble before I size. The reason there are deprimed cases in the tumbler are either because I've already deprimed them with a dedicated depriming die (no cleaning required beforehand), or I'm tumbling them after I've sized them to remove the case lube.

Grainger corncob. I bought the 14/20. It is small and works great, but will stick in flash holes some. The 20/40 is real fine and reportedly won't catch in flash holes. I haven't run out of the bag of 14/20 I bought, and won't for awhile yet.

14/20 @ Grainger

20/40 @ Grainger

If there is a store near you, Grainger doesn't charge shipping if you pick it up at the store, even if they order it for you.

You can get the same stuff(drop shipped by Grainger) from Drillspot with free 3 day shipping. The free shipping disappered a while back($33!), but is back on for now.
Finer here.

I just bought a 25 lb box of walnut media (fine 24 grit) from Harbor Freight for $14.99 on sale. It is similar in size of walnut media I have been using. They also have coarse 12 grit, but it looked too large.

Darn, just got back from Skull Island (it's a jungle out there) hunted up a bag of Zilla, the 25 ft ape with a employee ID was a lot of help but the natives were restless (kept chanting something aboutl Visa or Master Card) had a little trouble getting out of there, my 2 yr old grand daughter kept getting lost amoung all the animals. Well after 2 gerbals a hamster and a couple of rabbits we finally made our way out of the jungle and back to civilization. I'll need to bring more ammunition ($) with on the next hunt.

Walkalong and Mdemetz thanks on the tip about Granger, there's one about a mile from me. Will order on monday. A 42 lb bucket should last me at least 5 years or more.

And thanks BDS it's to Harbor Freight tomorrow.

This should keep me cleaning for a Looooooogn long time.

Thanks Again
Jim

I use hampster size. There's a picture of a hampster on the front of the bag. I get it at PetSmart. When it's gone, I'll get some corn cob media from Graingers. They'll even deliver it to work.

Lizard size, but I don't think there's a governing ASTM standard.

I'd love to see "hamster size" and "lizard size" used for official standards!

But I guess the reloading-supply companies wouldn't like that - it would tip off their customers that you can get the stuff cheaper at a pet store.
