S&w .38 model 36 question

Hi everyone, New to the forums. I have a quick question to start. I just picked up a S&W .38 cheifs special model 36. The serial number is 7J8xxx Iv looked through the forums with the search and I still couldnt tell the year it was made. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

S&W J-Frames used a Number -Letter prefix 1982/1983, After 1983 they went to a 3 Letter prefix. So I believe your 36 was made 1983

Your M36 has a serial number in the "floating J" range. The SCSW says J1 - 999J99 is 1971-72.
