Scope for .45-70?
Looking for suggestions for affordable optics suitable for Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70. Preferably in the $200-300 range.

you said preferably 200-300 so I'm going to give my opinion that doesn't fit. Leupold 1.5x5.

45/70 scope
I have a 1.5x5 Leupold on one of mine and a Burris scout scope on the other.

Nikon. A Monarch 3x9 should be close to your $300 top end price. Great scope for the money and in that same price point, much clearer and brighter than either a Leupold or Zeiss in my opinion. I've got one on my Ruger No. 1 45-70 and scope has held up well to the recoil and has retained it's zero.
If that is still a bit much for you, the Nikon Buckmaster is a good choice as well.
