New(ish) Colt Trooper
I've been thinking about a Ruger GP100 4" to play with at the range until I found this a few bucks cheaper. Supposed to be unfired, but I'll be ending that soon. I almost feel like it's too pretty to take out, but there's no such thing.
Can't wait for next weekend!

If you found that....
If you found that a few bucks cheaper than a GP100... the Ruger must have had gold plating!
![]() Very nice. Troopers like that bring premiums at shows I go to. I haggled a very beat up 6" blue Trooper DOWN to $375 at the last gunshow I went to. The guy was asking $450 for it. |

SHoot the daylights out of it.
That's one of the toughest .357's out there. |

I have a Colt Trooper MKlll, no rib barrel though. I bought it around 1969 as the Pythons were hard to come by. I had no idea they made another model in the Trooper, good looking gun. I carried mine when hunting as a side arm.

There are three Colt Troopers.
The original Trooper had the same basic action as the Python. The Trooper Mark III had Colt's first transfer bar ignition and safety system. It has nothing in common with the original Trooper. The Trooper Mark V upgraded the Mark III with a better trigger action and some cosmetic changes, like the vent rib barrel. To be correct, you need to use the actual name of the model to prevent confusion. Technically, only the original Trooper is really "The Trooper". All others should include the Mark info. |

Wow!!!!
Beautiful gun!
I've never owned a Trooper, but will never forget the first one I saw. I was a young teenager & the guy who rented our neighbor's upstairs floor was a cop--IIRC he was a Louisiana State Trooper. I remember him showing me that Colt one evening out by the street, and demonstrating how they were taught to hand over a revolver by opening the cylinder, putting your finger thru the opening & reversing the barrel, then handing it over. It made sense then & now--I still do it that way. I like .38SPL more than .357, and enjoy my Detective Special and Police Positive Special. Maybe someday a Diamondback. Your Trooper makes me want to reconsider :-) Congrats on finding it! |

Thanks all for the kind words. Can't wait to take it out. Of course it snowed again last night so will be delaying again.... Will post up a range report one day.
