weatherby accubrake? does it work?

Does it really work as good as they say? 42 ft lbs of recoil out of a 460 weatherby sound real? suppose to get 53% recoil reduction?if not 42 i wonder it it will still bring it down to 60 ft lbs .Or does 50 bmg style brakes only work

I fired a 460 Weatherby with the Accubrake in place, and it does indeed reduce recoil substantially, taking the nearly 100 ft-lbs of recoil down to more manageable levels. I can't vouch for a 53% reduction, but it makes the rifle much more shootable. It's still a 14-lbs rifle kicking like a mule on steroids, but at least it reduces recoil some. In exchange for reduced recoil, it is nearly deafening.

As a comparison, I am sure you have read about how a 30-06 in an 8-lbs rifle generates about 20 ft-lbs of recoil, so you are still talking about more than twice the free recoil of a 30-06.

I think it cut my .257 Wby down to .243 recoil, and my 300 wby down to .308 Range..

Definately worth having. My REM700MLR in338Lap has very similar Brake and its like shooting a308. Biggest drawback is the noise and concussion.Im going to change mine to an AI brake to reduce the amount of gas forced downward.I,ve shot this thing over the bonnet of my Landcruiser and it will actually put dents in the metal.

brake

while i cant say the weatherby muzzle brake works as good as advertised i can say it probly helps alot i have a 98bravo(338lapua mag) and im not sure i would shoot it many times without the muzzle brake. the muzzle blast is massive with the brake(my freind shattered his back window out of his truck shooting across the bed) but felt recoil is similar to bird shot in a 12gauge a great reduction over the sharp mule like wallop it would have. short story the muzzle is worth having especially with magnum rounds.

so how do you think a 460 wby with accubrake recoil is like compared to a 3" 2 oz load 12 gauge in a 6.4 lb shotgun @ 1200 fps /with 3.5" 2 1/4 oz load @ 1200 fps it has 86 lb ft recoil with 30 fps of recoiling energy

The only one I had experience with was a former B-I-L's 30-378. It worked pretty well, but the noise and concussion was something else. Definitely a time for plus and muffs...

accubrake

honestly ive only ever shot a 460wth mag without a brake(ouch)
but based on my 338lup mag id guess it would be less than a 3" 2oz 12gauge assuming the accubrake performs as well as the brake on my barrett and based on what other who own an accubraked gun said its safe to say they probly would not go back to a gun without it(if anyone with one of these rifles disagrees id like to hear about it and why) i certainly would not want to go back to 338lap mag without it.

I've fired a 340 Weatherby with brake...reduces felt recoil iin my opinion to abot 270 levels. However, the blast is unreal!! Don't stand or shoot beside when it goes off.
