Receiver Options for a 338 build???

It has been a few months since I've built anything. But I have been out enjoying a 7mm-08 at longish distances (800-1000yds) and that time in the hills has given me a hankering for something that'll shoot a higher BC bullet. I don't want a 50, so that pretty much leaves me looking at 338's. Most of my builds have been on Mauser actions and I'm not against doing this one the familiar way (I think that would be either a 330 Dakota or 338WinMag), but the length of the Mauser action rules out the 338RUM ... and that seems like a logical choice to hurl 300gr SMKs from a longer range rifle ... 200-300fps more logical in this case. Are there any good choices in actions (ideally they would be common C&R available surplus ) that I should consider for an RUM?

I already have the tools, etc for the job, and I enjoy the project almost as much as the product, so the "It'd be cheaper to just buy one" comments don't really apply here

Thanks in advance,

Saands

P14/P17 would be the first choice in surplus, a lot of magnums are build on that receiver.
