Low primer detection kit
RCBS has a low primer detection kit . Does anyone know if this device will work on my Hornady LNL press?

For my Hornady LnL I made a brass rod (1/8") that I put in the primer tube that has a bend in so when there is only 1 primer left it will hit the top of the tube. It doesn't ring a bell or anything, but I look at fairly often. And it cost less than $5. And it makes the primers feed better too.

My LnL came with a thin white rod that appears to be fiberglass. I just marked a line on it where it bottoms out. Like Randy mentioned, it appears to help the primers feed positively, versus just feeding by their own weight.
That being said, it also holds the primer dispensing arm out when the rod hits bottom, which is a slight difference in the behavior of the press, I'm not sure whether it's much of an additional warning about being out of primers though. |

Me, I put 100 primers into the tube....When I have loaded two 50-round boxes of ammo, I'm pretty sure I'm about to run out of primers. Guess me and math just get along pretty well.
![]() That said, I like the creativity of the prior two posters, and may have to try something similar...just in case I'm not paying attention. |

I put a piece of red electrical tape around the circumference of the little white plastic rod that came with my LNL AP, at the point where there are zero primers in the tube. It does seem to help. As a secondary measure I also count my brass and primers out before reloading.
I thought about devising some form of opto-electrical sensor which would do the work of my eyes on the red tape but instead signalling me when there are five or fewer primers in the tube- probably not overly difficult to build if I get enough ambition...
