Light primer strikes, Ruger
Just got back from the range. My Ruger 44 Mag. 50th anniversary model had several light primer strikes....I had to shoot them out of my 629.
Has anyone else had this problem? |

The questin I would have is, is the gun new?
If not, it could be that someone has put in a set of aftermarket springs and or cut off some coils of the origional. There is no adjustment in the RUGER BH, but there could be a spring issue. I once put a set of "speed springs" in my Security Six and found that the hammer fall was not then hard enough to be relyable. Left the trigger spring in place, but reinstalled the origional hammer spring and no more problem. Also, if the firearm is not new could it be a cleaning issue? Possibly. If it is new, there is a posibility of a burr or overly tight part. Shouldn't be a hard issue to solve, as the firing system is not the complicated. Keep em coming! Crusty Deary Ol Coot |

I purchased this gun new. It's had only a couple of boxes of ammo through it; since I reload, this would have been reloads. The ammo we were using at the range was purchased there by my son (I forgot the ammo!). It was branded, but I really don't remember what it was.

No worry
My Ruger 454 will do the samething due to some brass having a deep primer pocket. The primer seats it's self to deep in the brass so the firing pin can't fully strike it. I had to throw a few pieces of brass out due to this same issue. BUT it's better then the firing pin being to long and piercing the primers.
