The Koolaid is Red and it tastes goooooddddd!

The Old

The New

Broke down and stepped up in the Press Catagory to a Hornady LNL AP

It was between the 550, RCBS 2000, and the LNL AP

The deciding factors were the Reviews of LNL owners, Primer feed system, it is auto indexing, and the bushing systems

Not to mention with the current rebate offer from Hornady I get 1000 185gr .451 XTP JHP projectiles ($300 value for nothing more than filling out the rebate form and paying shipping.)

I feel good about this deal

I am officially a Red Koolaid drinker now.

Jim, my LNL came with a very nice but persnickety powder measure. If you leave it set up for one load it works great. But mine was very time consuming to set up. I switched it out with a Lee Autodisk. TRguy, I think the LNL is the best press on the market. Judging from the demand I'm not the only one. I paid around $269 for mine a couple years ago. Now they are way more.

That Koolaid seems to give you the jitters. Cut back a bit so we can get some clearer photos.

Cool, it is always nice to buy a new progressive press. Don't forget to take apart and clean your powder measure real well prior to feeding it some powder. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

Well I can tell getting a micro meter for the powder measure will speed things up a bit, But i do like that it has two rotors (Large and Small)

Once the Small rotor was calibrated it would throw the same charge consistently.

Smooth and no tinkering to keep it in time. The Lee Pro 1000 I had would require me to tinker with the auto indexing timing about a minimum of every two hundred rounds if not before.

Just set up the 38 dies in the bushings today, I took them out and reset the dies. Wanted to see if it would stay set. It was, amazing how fast and consistent it is. The crimp was tight and I would seat the bullets to 1.53" OCL every time.

So far I feel very good about it.

Now to wait on my backordered shell plates for the 9mm, 45acp, and 5.56mm.

I gave mine a little bit of a work out tonight in several different calibers. I found the Hornady powder thru expander can be a hard thnig to set up when changing to different calibers. I guess those are one of those things I will have to work on. In addition I get a lot of cases that tilt, that is frustrating.

Once I get a caliber set up it goes pretty good but changing again leads to working the solution for the expander and sometimes the cases tilting.

I can say to keep the shell plate clean, I was a little sloppy and found the priming system is more susceptible to debris than my 650. Yes I managed to bind up the primer slide. Not a complaint just a tip for the operator.

Oh well I hope the red and blue presses don't clash that much sitting side by side.

I've fought the powder thru expander also. I got one of these which solved the problem for me.

I'd recommend picking up one of the micrometer inserts for the powder measure if you haven't already. They are quick for making small, incremental adjustments and make it much easier to return to a previous load. IMHO the press should come with them from the factory....

You're welcome. I really like the powder funnel which is a universal PTX (powder thru expander) die for the Hornady LnL powder measure. The powder funnel has been praised all over this forum, mostly under the name LnLPTX. The name change to "Powder Funnel" is because Hornady didn't want "LnL" used in someone else's product.

No one ever mentioned what is to me one of the nicest features - the powder funnel is always in the Hornady powder measure setup no matter what cartridge I'm loading. I don't have to pull it out and put another one in like the Hornady PTXs. One last thing to misplace. Nothing to search for during a caliber change.

Simpler, better, cheaper (than 3 Hornady PTXs), handier - what's not to like?

I received the expander today. This thing is everything the Hornady expanders should be. Works with every caliber, super easy to adjust and doesn't stick in the cases like the Hornady POS units do. For $25 it's a 10!
