new member question

I was wondering what it takes to be able to post on the gunshow forum. I tried and it says I'm not allowed. Is this a priviledge that comes later or am I doing something wrong? Thanx fujimo1

Almost all the areas of the FiringLine have what is called "Sticky" threads. These threads are either rules for the different forums or threads that the forum moderator has deemed of some value for the general members. We call them "stickies," because unlike the rest of the threads that sink towards the bottom of the pile, these threads are always "stuck" near the top of the forum index. They are always visible.

It's a shame that so many of you folks simply don't notice them. Because if you did, and you read them, many of your questions would be answered.

Towards the top of this forum, is a sticky called: Can't Start a Thread in the Buy,Sell,Trade Section. Reading this, just might help you to understand and answer your question.

At the top of all the Gun Show forums, is a sticky called: New Forum Rules. It will answer your particular question.

Why does it seem like they're always INvisible?

Could it be that I'm just tired of answering the same thing, over and over?

None of us mods are here to hold your hand and walk you through what should be obvious. This isn't a classroom full of adolescents, nor am I the teacher.

This board was set up for adults. We expect, no... We demand adult behavior. In other words, I dislike the nanny-state intensely, and I am no ones nanny.

Is there a way to automatically redirect someone to the thread explaining the rule when said person attempts to create a thread which they are not able to create?

Not a bad idea at all. It's possible to add a link to the error message they will see. However, that same error message is used for more than that one set of forums, so it would entail two different error checking code sets. That isn't feasible.

What if the error message essentially said:

"If you're trying to *abc*, click here.

If you're trying to *XYZ*, click here."

and so on...

I automatically redirect them to the board and Gun Show rules if they PM me. Is that good enough?
