Colt recall-please read

Colt is recalling WWI Replicas, New Agents Combat Elites, Defenders and Night defenders as set forth in the attached web page.

http://www.coltsmfg.com/recall.aspx.

This recall is for slide lock safety (thumb safety) and/or recoil spring guides, my understanding is sub contractor error. Regardless, if anyone of you has an affected pistol you bought from us, please call me and I will help you with the recall. If you didnt buy from us, I will help you anyway

Colt Recall

Colt responded immediately and is sending a self addressed pre paid envelop to ship my 1911 back for the refit.

In the past I have bad-mouthed Colt some based on the problems I have had with my Combat Elite. But I must say I appreciate their quick and professional action on this issue. In addition, after working thru the bugs I confess this autoloader is now flawless in function and exacting on the range.

Emmm, dat crow not dat bad after all.......

It is my fault !

...Sorry guys I got one and probally caused the recall...luck's not to good these days...so now only my kimber has a perfect record...my colt came with a bad slide stop (fixxed that myself) and now it has to go back but in the mean time my ultra cdpII keeps plugging along...but I will miss the colt while it is away...

Dropped off my Colt New Agent at the Fedex store on Friday, 7/10/09; got it back in my hands on Monday, 7/16/09 along with a letter explaining what repairs they performed. Very quick and very professional. Kudos to Colt.

recall

Update "New Agent":
7 of 100 rounds ftf at the range; called Colt service dept. about a very weak outer recoil spring. (Iwas able to compress it almost to solid state between my thumb and forefinger). They're sending me a new one with the proper tension.
Another update later.

Received a new spring from Colt. Run 100 rds. thru the gun today with no problems.

So far nobody has said what the exact problem with the thumb safeties was. I spotted a Colt WW1 Replica in a local shop in the recalled range, and the thumb safety looked and worked perfectly normal. After notifying the dealer about the recall they sent it in and received it back in just a week, and the replacement part is identical to the old one. Colt does stamp a little "I" underneath the slide near the groove for the firing pin stop plate to indicate that the weapon has been serviced.
