Some good news from Illinois

Not exactly earth shaking news, but good none the less.

Last night the Kane County board became the 91st of 102 counties in Illinois to sign off on a pro-2A resolution. While it has no practical legal ramifications, it does show the level of support the RTKBA has in illinois outside of King Daley's crime empire.

Turns out the celebration is a bit premature. It only passed out of a subcommittee and not the full board. Next Tuesday is the full vote.

The state legislature also passed by wide margins a couple of bills that are waiting for the governor's signature.

HB182 changes the UUW law so it is no longer a FELONY to go shooting at your grandpa's farm, along with many other travesties.

HB3714 removes the requirement to revoke a persons FOID card for minor non-violent offenses where probation is the sentence.

Not if the NRA has anything to say about it.

They have emphatically stated they will not support any CC legislation that does not include the whole state.

I don't know how tuned in you are to what is going on in the state legislature but there was a CC bill in play this session that might have had a chance of passing. It was opposed by the NRA because it did not preempt home rule units, which requires a super majority that is presently not attainable. The NRA's opposition killed it. The revelation of the NRA's opposition to the bill caused a minor revolt against the NRA, that even now is still festering.

Maybe some day when King Daley and about 100 of his cronies are in the federal pen together.

In 3 days it will be 23 years since I left Illinois. Still I feel for you guys who live there. A CCW beats A FOID any day!

Isn't that cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Don't get me wrong I believe the only CCW needed is the 2nd amendment, but, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I am sort of inclined to agree, but its not quite that simple.

This is Illinois after all.

The NRA argument is that without pre-emption, any home rule unit can pass an ordinance banning CC. They can't make it a felony like it is at the state level, but they can give you 6 months in county. The need to have knowledge of the laws of 500 different home rule entities (or however many there are these days) makes it impractical to know whether you are legal or not.

This is the state after all, that just recently convicted a guy of a felony for having a loaded firearm at his sister's home with her permission. How many people in this state even realized such a thing was illegal at all? I never did. Every time someone goes shooting at someone's farm multiple felonies were being committed. In this state I would not be surprised to see them charge the land owner with conspiracy or something for inviting a few friends over for some informal target practice. BTW, HB182 is on the governor's desk that fixes this little "quirk".

People will naturally assume because they have a state LTC they can carry anywhere in the state, and a few would get caught up in the criminal justice system.

The other argument they have put forth is that the urban areas need CC far more than the rural areas because crime is so much more prevalent in those areas.
