Browning Announces new Hi-Power Model -- PIC

.

The product manager that dreamed up this new model of Browning Hi-Power pistol should be fired, in my opinion.

What do you think of this new gun? Would you buy it??? The MSRP is $985

Well, 400 years ago people were burned at the stake for committing sacrilegious acts.

I do believe that it is the other way around.

The Browning Hi-Power was introduced 4 decades before the CZ 75.

I'd take any Hi-Power, really. Even with the latest-and-greatest tacticrappy digicamo tango-down alpha bravo sixer niner paint job, it's still a Hi-Power.

Looks like somebody forgot to fill up the ink on the digital finish-printing machine.

Still looks better than dookie-brown plastic, though.

Exactly. It is now 2009.

That is why I ruled out both burning at the stake, as well as crucifixion, as being an appropriate punishment.

They didn't do anything but put a digital camo finish on the pistol -- I'd pass.

I'm very partial to my High Power, but that's after some assorted modification. I'd like to see a High Power offered from the factory with the old style ring hammer or a no-bite C&S hammer, more positive safety, and some other modifications.

A version that came from the factory without the magazine safety would be nice for those who are either law-suit phobic or who want a duty pistol in LE departments that won't allow removal of a safety feature.

And, unholy as it may be, a light rail would be a nice addition for those who are interested in a High Power as a modern duty weapon.

I saw one on GunBroker recently. I may be the minority here, but I like the finish.

Here is a link to an ad for one on GB-

Forgot to add that the two tone is my favorite finish on a HP

Give it a couple of years, it will make you happy.

Short runs of things tend to appreciate. This would have sold for around $6-700 when new.

HP's are nice, and I have a couple, but its still just a HP, and an ugly one at that, and the ambi safeties still 'bite".

Me too, I look at the beautiful blued finish of my Belgium made HP and morn the loss of bluing that was truly art.

I miss the Colt Royal blue on pythons and the deep dark black on the big frame Smiths.

But of course I do have an evil black rifle or two and do admit to having the two tone 40 S&W HP….. They just are not as pretty. They may be more practical, but not more esthetic.

Wow! If they come up with a matching ball point pen, wineglass and eyeglass frames I could be invisible anywhere!

Camo on a service rifle? Sure. On a sidearm? Get real. :barf:

Saw one yesterday at BassPro in Hampton. $900. I've wanted a Hi-Power for a long time (actually I want the Hi-Power Practical, specifically). Didn't even give it a second look. Bought a CZ P-07 instead.

I'm more interesting in coming across a lightly used Hi-Power as a base for custom work, but I won't turn down a decently priced new one either. But this digital camo abomination too much. Probably not even properly polished under that crap and the gunsmith would charge me extra to remove it and polish for a real finish.
