Smith & Wesson Model 13-1 Service Revolver

My father retired after 31 years from a local agency has given me one of his service guns, it's serial#26xxx.

I would never consider selling this heirloom but I am curious about it"s insurance value and date of manufacture.

It is a Blued 4" .357 with fixed sights and Walnut S&W grips. There is very light holster wear on the end of the barrel.

A good Model 13 is pretty expensive, a Model 13-1 should bring a premium.

I've been looking at them on Gunbroker for quite a while now, and a good price for one is around $450 or even more. I've seen Model 13s sell for more than the much fancier Model 28s or M19s.

The stainless version of the 13 is the model 65, but for some reason they sell for less than the M13.

One of my local dealers had a Model 13 a few years back for $460. He sold it quickly.

I'd insure a M13 for at least $600. I'd sure as heck NEVER sell it.

That doesn't sound like the entire serial number - for that gun, it should start with a numeral, followed by the letter D, and then five digits. Perhaps what you've posted is only the last five digits?
